Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katrina Caldwell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Katrina with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from the fear of failure . Growing up , I didn’t have much but I always knew I didn’t want my life to remain that way forever . I started working at the age of 14 and never stopped since .
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Katrina Gilbert Bio
Phenomenal mother, sister, daughter, friend, and pillar in her community, Katrina Gilbert has made a bright and bold name for herself within entrepreneurship. A North Philadelphia Native, and Temple Owl Alum, she never steered away from working hard, and persevering to achieve the goals she set in front of her.
During her time at Temple University, Gilbert majored in accounting which then led to a 10 year tenure at the Philadelphia Housing Authority. A compassionate employee was then since pushed and pivoted into the direction of entrepreneurship. Gilbert started her entrepreneurial journey in wedding and event planning with her first business being known as, KG Weddings & Events. Her success not only made her one of the top wedding planners within Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, it led to the opening of not one, but two event spaces. Often referred to as the “original intimate event space”, Petite Fète Philadelphia was born and quickly came to a successful rise, as well as the start of new beginnings between the 49th and 50th streets of Baltimore Avenue in Philadelphia.
Not too long after opening her event spaces, Gilbert decided to pivot yet again, this time retiring from events, hiring staff to continue running her spaces, while she then ventured into opening Petite Playhouse, a daycare educational experience unlike any other in the City of Philadelphia. Much of her success has allowed a number of opportunities to come her way, in which women would often have a plethora of questions to ask about her success and paths they could take with her help, guidance, and encouragement. Gilbert has always enjoyed using the words God places on her heart to encourage others, especially women, and more especially mothers! Her love for sisterhood, being a woman in entrepreneurship, and understanding the value of her words, began the start of her NON-profit organization, WOMANHOOD.
Katrina spent years giving back to her community through book-bag drives, Thanksgiving giveaways, dorm room makeovers, prom sponsorship experiences, and community events. She continues to make a mark and leave a mark on her community, booking more speaking engagements and shining her light on those at the sound of her voice.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Creativity , Determination & The ability to learn .
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
My biggest obstacle I’m currently facing is finding the perfect team to help elevate my skills and business to the next level . I’m working on developing a mentorship program that will allow those who’s under me to possibly work for me, while they learn the business all in one . I’m also partnering with agencies with transitional housing to help offer jobs to the woman in their program.
