Meet Katya Fishamn

We recently connected with Katya Fishamn and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Katya, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

When you realize that being the only person who looks like you in a situation is actually your superpower, then you are unstoppable. You bring a nuanced, new perspective to the table that will help enrich the entire room. Lean in!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

As a writing coach, I help people accomplish the massive goal of writing a book. I work exclusively with nonfiction authors to help them develop a framework, methodology, or guide all centered around their expertise and experience in their field.

As a book producer and publishing coach, I guide people through the process of bringing their book to life, both professionally and beautifully, to end up with a product that can hold its own in comparison to a traditionally published book.

As a ghostwriter, I help people immigrants and their children capture family life stories, so that they may preserve their culture for generations to come.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Enthusiasm about getting to do work I love!
2. Curiosity and a desire to learn more everyday about what I do.
3. Optimism about my business being a success!

There is no reason to take a risk or go after something you have never done unless you have enthusiasm, curiosity, and optimism about the process. Without these three, it will be difficult to succeed. Make sure you have a genuine desire to make the hard thing happen for yourself.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am looking to work business and c-suite executive coaches. It is very likely that their clients have been dreaming about writing a book and feel they don’t have the time to dig into that skillset. That’s where I come in! We put together an outline, a writing plan, and I help them stay accountable to get that book done.
