Meet Kavita Joshi

We recently connected with Kavita Joshi and have shared our conversation below.

Kavita, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I discovered my purpose during a season of change. My father passed away when I was still early in my career, but his greatest lesson stayed with me: never let anything, especially being a minority, or ‘the only one in the room’ limit what you imagine for your life. Losing him made me rethink everything.
Not long after, I stepped away from my corporate job to focus on my health and my young children. I threw myself into strength training – what started as a simple gym routine became an obsession that rebuilt my confidence and reconnected me to myself.

As I learned more about wellness, clean living, and my children’s health, I realized how much I cared about creating a natural, intentional lifestyle for my family. I researched diets, ingredients, and toxin-free products for hours, brainstorming how I could reduce waste in my household. When I eventually came across Plastic Free Pursuit years later, it felt like the universe had handed me something that aligned with everything I valued.

My purpose wasn’t found in a single moment: it was a series of choices that brought me back to who I’ve always been. Taking over Plastic Free Pursuit became the first time in my life where passion, personal values, and professional ambition all aligned. And since I stepped into it, I haven’t looked back.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Today, I run Plastic Free Pursuit, an ecommerce lifestyle brand focused on sustainable choices. I acquired the business from a young couple, and the mission immediately resonated with me. After losing my father to cancer and navigating my own health challenges, I became deeply invested in natural living, mindful consumption, and removing unnecessary toxins from my daily environment.

I believe sustainability should slip into your life as naturally as your morning routine. Searching for perfect regimens and perfect products is overwhelming. My brand blends minimal design, thoughtful curation, and a commitment to products that feel good to use and easy to choose. Everyone is trying to live a little better, and any single swap in your household makes an impact. Plastic Free Pursuit allows me to share all I’ve learned with people who want to make healthier choices, for themselves and the planet.

What excites me most is how quickly the brand is evolving. We are currently undergoing a rebrand with a renewed focus on clean beauty, wellness, and intentional living. Going into the new year, our vision is simple: “Promote well-made products, honest materials, and simple swaps that feel effortless.”

I want people to know that sustainability doesn’t have to feel overwhelming—small choices really do add up, and anyone can join the sustainability movement.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Prioritizing my health – building strength—physically and mentally—has shaped everything about who I am today. Exercising daily and changing my food habits restored my confidence and gave me the courage to take big risks, including becoming a business owner. Fitness is now a non-negotiable part of my life.

Learning to let go of control – running a business brings uncertainty. I’ve learned to take things as they come rather than forcing outcomes. That mindset has helped me stay grounded, calm, and solution-oriented.

Staying organized and intentional – balancing family life and entrepreneurship requires structure. I rely on planning, scheduling, and preparing healthy meals so that my home life and business life both get the attention they deserve.

My advice for anyone starting out—especially women—is this: Prioritize your well-being, don’t fear failure, and keep moving forward. Small, consistent habits build confidence and you’ll become unrecognizable in no time.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

If I knew I only had a decade of life left, I would travel! Traveling, seeing all the beauty in this world and learning about different localities is kind of a meditation for me. I believe heaven is on the earth itself. I have so many places on my bucket list that I want to visit and I would absolutely do that before I die. Sustainability manifests in so many different ways, and I want to experience that beyond the United States.

Other than that, I have always wanted to learn to paint. I will attend workshops and classes and paint sceneries of natural beauty I’ve witnessed in my travels. I believe you can use painting to portray the world that you imagine it to be.
