Meet Kay Jenkins

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kay Jenkins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kay , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I believe my resilience stems from a life filled with a lot of adversity starting at a very young age. Growing up in a broken home in the heart of a trailer park with a single drug addict mother and an absent father would typically set anyone up for failure as society statistics say. However I refused to be a product of my circumstances. After being taken into states custody at the age of 17 and put into an intensive group home and treatment program I learned healthy coping mechanisms and proper life skills to help set me on the right path. I was in solitary confinement for almost eighteen months before being released back into the real world. I was completely alone and isolated from everything I had ever known. What seemed to be the darkest of days actually turned out to be the biggest blessing that saved my life. This experience forced me to do the hard internal work most people tend to overlook. During exile I was able to realize my true potential and envision a much brighter future for myself. Eliminating all distractions and negative influences was the key to unlocking Kay By Design which is now the brand I have build over the last 10 years since being released. Bouncing back better than ever was really my only option. I had something to prove not only to myself but the rest of the world. All those that doubted me and all those that believed in me. Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

1My personal brand specializes is creating a Life by Design not by Default. I challenge the status quo and have beat every odd ever bet against me. Being an entrepreneur with multiple businesses I chose to integrate different industries like no one ever has before. Getting licensed as a Broker at such a young age set me ahead of the market and allowed me to make deep connections within my database. Modeling had initially only started out as a passion however it evolved very quickly into much more and opened up so many opportunities for me to expand my network in the Real Estate world. I turned colleagues into clients and bridge gapped what most business professionals found impossible. While shooting for playboy magazine I closed my largest escrow transactions representing another model with her new investment property. So while others thought I wouldn’t be taken seriously I was tapping into an untouched demographic. Throughout accomplishing all this I have mastered marketing and communication skills on an extensive level so I decided to start coaching and sharing my skills sets/secrets with others who want to be extraordinary. Helping abstract the best out of others has always been a calling of mine. So now I have learned to monetize my entire lifestyle by releasing online guides and offering one on one coaching.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My top three skills/qualities:
Resilience
Faith – in myself and God
Remembering my WHY – keeping what made you start in mind at all times

I would advise anyone to believe in themselves and their goals more than anything. Trust in the process and why that dream was given to you in the first place. Other people trying to interfere and make you doubt yourself is only a test from the universe and your higher power to see how bad you really want it. How committed are you? What are you willing to give up to go up?

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was not be there. Having to grow up and be independent at such a young age actually worked out in my favor. It brought out the fire inside me and made me a fighter. As much hurt and pain as I went through it was all worth it because I am proud of the woman I have become in spite of all it. Now as I continue to evolve they teach me one of the most valuable lessons in life; FORGIVENESS – This is something I still have to actively work towards everyday but I am committed to healing and accepting it all as part of my story.
