Meet Kayanna Hopson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kayanna Hopson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kayanna, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from both of my wonderful parents but most importantly stemmed from my substantial upbringing. My upbringing has played a tremendous part in who I am and how I became the resilient young woman I am today. I never knew what it was like as a kid to have everything I wanted, but I always had parents who ensured that I had what I needed. I started to understand the importance of being grateful for what I had because even through the struggle they have instilled so many things in me that money could not buy. Having a strong relationship with my parents has played a huge part in my overall development. Building a solid relationship with them has helped me with building security within myself but also helps me foster confidence, promoting healthy social skills and setting standards for positive future relationships by teaching me how to navigate love, trust and communication within a supportive environment. Growing up I maintained a great relationship with my parents and that has helped me gain support and guidance throughout this journey. When I think of resilience, I think of the ability to keep going through the hard times and seeing my parents be resilient in times where people lacked confidence in their capacity to endure or push through their difficulties has taught me to never doubt yourself and no matter what life throws at you, KEEP GOING! I’ve had so many obstacles throughout this journey, and it has been moments where people have doubted me but I made it a point throughout this journey to keep a close relationship with god because he is the only person that can guide me through the rough times and still make me feel like even when the odds are against me I can still come out on top.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

The Hair Geniee was founded July 28th of 2022 in honor of my mother Regina Jones aka Ms. Genie who passed on May 26th of 2021. She was a very intelligent and beautiful woman who instilled education in me and the power of belief. I started on this journey hoping to continue the legacy of her name and this has helped me keep her closer in my heart as a way of relief and memory. My passion for hair has kept me hungry and has allowed me to stay true to myself and my work. As the passion for hair grew more intense, I decided to incorporate content creating. I started creating content because I knew that I wanted to do more than just stand behind the chair. I decided to start content creation to engage with my clients, my business pages, and anyone who is an active support on my page. I knew that I was good with a variety of things and not only hair. I knew that I was always good at being a positive light to other stylist and showing my raw personality would help others understand me and my story. I started to create content with my clients to show more of my fun authentic side but also to allow them to express themselves on camera as well. The moment that I stepped out of my comfort zone I went viral on my hair page with my first video reaching 1.5 million views. I gained more followers, views, and interactions within a few weeks by just being consistent every day. I trusted the process and I started to feel more confident in myself with the help of God guiding me and leading me through this journey. Within the last year, I have had 17 videos go viral and over 500 clients.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were a strong work ethic, adaptability, and a genuine curiosity for learning new things. My advice to anyone who is early in their journey is to never doubt yourself but most importantly keep a close relationship with god because he is going to guide you every step of the way on your journey. Never be afraid to step out your comfort zone, always bet on yourself because this journey will not be easy at all but with a strong mindset and a strong drive you can do anything you put your mind to.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

My biggest area of growth or improvement has been time management and staying consistent with content creating. I’ve struggled with time management from day one because i couldn’t find a balance between prioritizing and goal setting. I always had trouble with figuring out which goals i wanted to tackle first and what were most important. I also struggled with posting and showing up for my business consistently because i felt so discouraged at times but with me learning the importance of staying consistent and what the outcome is when doing so, i started to see the overall value in what it does for your business.
