Meet Kayce Hammer

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kayce Hammer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kayce, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?

I think people that are too scared to fulfill their own dreams, has something to say about everyone else’s. It’s scary to pursue something new, especially when you have no idea where it is headed – but the rewards can far outweigh the fear / negatives. I always try to remind myself of this when I’m feeling defeated or talked badly about. The most successful people in the world have the most haters. You have to stay in your own lane and remember why you’re doing what you do! And most important of all – you have to be doing it for yourself!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I own Peak Nanny Agency here in Denver, CO! I came from a background in education and much like everyone else in public education – I was feeling burnt out and unsupported. Nannying kind of stumbled into my lap and the rest is history. After spending many years as a career nanny myself – I saw so many flaws in the nanny ‘career’ realm. I wanted to be able to bridge that gap between advocating for fairness on the side of the nannies, and advocating for fairness on this side of the families! I like to take pride in being a voice of reason for both parties. I have recently expanded my services into Minnesota and have placed two full time families there already, so I’m super excited about that – it’s where I’m originally from and where my family lives still! I look forward to being able to continue to place families here in Denver and hopefully continue to expand in Minnesota and beyond!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Determination, passion, and research! When starting any venture or business – you are going to have plenty of obstacles. In order to overcome those, you need to have determination. And you have to be doing it for you. With that being said, it is also so cliche, but true when they say to find something that you’re passionate about. After working in this career for many years – it was something that I truly felt passionate about, and when you feel passionate about something – it makes it that much easier to talk about and invest in. I knew that I wanted people to love nannying as much as I did, and I wanted families to love their nannies and be able to build lifelong bonds with them! Research is so, so important. Just like any career – there are always variable trends, and the market is forever changing. Staying up to date with these things can ensure that I’m giving accurate knowledge to both families and nannies alike!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I’m feeling overwhelmed I make sure that I’m taking care of me, first and foremost! The gym is something that is a non negotiable for me – every morning I get up and get my workout in. I have gotten much more into my faith this past year and when I’m feeling super overwhelmed – I find comfort in being able to pray about things. Knowing God has a plan for me and a greater purpose helps take some of that “burden” off of me. I also have gotten really into journaling this year – sometimes you just need to let things out. Beyond that, I will go for walks, listen to podcasts, listen to music, get lost in a good book, etc! I’ve found that it’s so important to make sure that I’m taking care of myself in order to show up as the best business owner that I can!
