We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kayla Bonina . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kayla below.
Hi Kayla , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic came from a very young age for me. I used to be on a national volleyball team that held me to a very high standard early on in life. I suffered an injury my senior year breaking my ankle and gained close to 100 pounds. From there I still fought to be able to From play in college. Once I graduated I always wanted more for myself and would always set very high goals. I started teaching fitness classes, lost the weight and began a career in fitness. Setting my goals that I achieved only came from having the plan in place behind the goals to work hard and achieve them. Visualizing what you want and setting goals makes having a strong work ethic a priority. You have to find what you love and strive to always be better. Not better then anyone else but a better you each and every day. When you have that mentality you can do anything you put your mind to. I now work as a client specialist for a mobile training company, a director of a modeling and acting agency and also am a professional actress. I balance all of these things with proper time management, having passion, and committing to work hard every day. I also set personal goals of going on trips and other rewards. I am a firm believer in work hard play hard and finding that balance for your life.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I wear a lot of hats and it makes each and every day exciting.
Fitness has always been my thing. Once coming out of my injury I started taking Zumba classes and had 50-60 people each class. I then grew to become a beachbody live master trainer and won master trainer of the year in 2019. I expanded my fitness into personal training and my buisness Kayla bonina fitness won best of east Texas in 2021. I now live in Dallas and work as a client specialist for mobile trainers. I love getting to train clients in the comfort of their own home and getting to be their first step into a healthier lifestyle. 12 years of fitness and I feel as if it will always be apart of my life.
I also work as a talent director for john Casablancas modeling and acting. Acting and modeling was a passion that came in my 20a and it’s been great getting to live that out. I help find talent and help groom and develop them to get into the industry
I am also represented by the agency and they are who helped me get my career started. I started off being a fitness model then branched into the acting. I had a lead role in a tv docu series that’s releasing soon, I work in professional improv in a murder mystery dinner show called dinner detective, I am a choreographer and have starred in musical theater roles like sally
Bowles in cabaret, magenta in Rocky horror show and Jane Bennet in pride and prejudice.
I hope to see some of you at an upcoming show or for a workout!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Communication will always be my number one. Proper communication to others and making them feel good about themselves is key to any growth or success in business and in life.
Time Management – the better you are with your calendar the more things you can do! I work a lot but also travel and have fun a lot to because of proper time management. Fine the balance that works for you and roll with it.
Creating realistic goals- have things to work towards personally and professionally. It gives you a concrete timeline to accomplish what you want.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I was younger and just starting one I was working 7 days a week and just grinded each day. I reached goals and am proud of that, however I was left some days feeling super overwhelmed. To combat this I schedule my off days, important days and holidays and schedule lots of travel through the year. Having set time to my boyfriend family and friends is key for me. I love exploring seeing new things and in doing this and creating this balance it really has made me more successful financially professionally and just a more well rounded woman.
