Meet Kayla Davis

We were lucky to catch up with Kayla Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kayla, sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Overcoming mental health challenges has been a journey for me, and I’ve found strength in a combination of self-care practices and seeking support. Regular exercise, mindfulness activities, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle have played a crucial role. Additionally, opening up to friends and close family about my struggles has allowed me to build a strong support system. Seeking professional help and staying consistent with therapy sessions have also been a key part of my resilience. While the journey is ongoing, these strategies have helped me persist and continue to grow despite the challenges.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hello, I’m Kayla Davis, a passionate creator on a journey to bring unique and meaningful stories to life. My creative endeavors are fueled by a deep love for animation.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been captivated by animation. This passion has been the driving force behind my creative journey, pushing me to explore new horizons and challenge the boundaries of conventional storytelling.

As a creator, I pride myself on telling stories that tell OUR STORIES. Whether it’s through visual aesthetics, narrative depth, or innovative techniques, I strive to create content that not only entertains but leaves a lasting impact on the audience.

I am currently working on an indie animation, Skelly. It is an adult animation that lets people know that it is okay to not feel okay sometimes. “Skelly” isn’t just an animated project; it’s a testament to her experiences, challenges, and triumphs as a person of color navigating the complexities of mental health.

“Growing up as kids of color, mental illness is sometimes swept under the rug,” Kayla reflects. “I want to bring it to the forefront and let people know it’s okay to not be okay.”

In a world where representation matters, “Skelly” emerges as a beacon, shedding light on often-overlooked narratives and fostering conversations that bridge the gaps in mental health awareness within diverse communities.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Learning to love yourself, warts and all. Learning that you can’t please the world at the same time.

Anyone working on this, keep going as it is always a process.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
At the heart of “Skelly” lies a philosophy that Kayla passionately lives by — PIQ: Positivity, Inclusion, and Quality. Through her work, she aims not only to entertain but to inspire positive change and inclusivity.

1. Positivity:

“Skelly” doesn’t shy away from the complexities of mental health, yet it carries a message of hope. Kayla’s commitment to weaving positivity into the storyline creates a narrative that resonates with audiences, encouraging them to find strength amid vulnerability.
2. Inclusion:

With characters and stories that reflect the diversity of the real world, “Skelly” champions inclusion. Kayla believes in the power of representation to break down stigmas and create a sense of belonging for all audiences.
3. Quality:

Kayla’s dedication to quality is evident in every frame of “Skelly.” From the animation style to the storytelling, she and her animation team, Carmond Infinity, uphold a standard that ensures her audience experiences a project crafted with meticulous care and creativity.
