Meet Kayla Jenae

We were lucky to catch up with Kayla Jenae recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kayla, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I keep my creativity alive by taking breaks when I feel uninspired. Sometimes it’s beneficial for me to step away from my craft and experience life. This way I return with more intention and purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My handmade jewelry brand is called Free Spirit. I’ve been working on it for 2 years. I make unique pieces with ethically sourced materials such as gemstones, crystals, sterling silver, and acrylic beads. My mission is inspiring others to accessorize their wardrobe while connecting with the depths of Earth’s beautiful elements. My online shop will be open on 10/11/2024. Follow @_freespiritofficial on Instagram so you don’t miss the launch!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three important skills that have been impactful in my journey are my artistic ability, fashion sense, and individuality. I’ve learned to stay in my lane, create what feels good to me as an artist and trust my own process. This helps me enjoy what I do without comparing myself to others. I take pride in the fact that my work can’t be found anywhere else.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I’m feeling overwhelmed I like to pray, meditate, and write in my journal. These things strengthen my relationship with God and center my energy. Creative hobbies (Ex: making jewelry) are a safe place for me to escape from the world. I strongly encourage others to try this as well. Behind everything I do is a supportive family and partner who I will never take for granted.
