We recently connected with Kayla Nicole Armstrong and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla Nicole, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Growing up as a dancer and performer, confidence was a necessity. I had a natural ability to carry that confidence off the dance floor and into real-life situations. The stage taught me to keep moving no matter what—to never let my face show when something was wrong and to keep my head up even through mess-ups.
As I got older and experienced major life changes, my confidence was stripped away—especially after having my first child. That’s when I had to rebuild my confidence and self-esteem from the ground up.
How did I do it? By going after my goals and dreams.
You’re probably thinking, “Well, how did you get the confidence to do that?”
For me, there is no in-between. Taking action was the beginning of my confidence. Back then, I paid less attention to the outcome and more attention to the fact that I was actually doing the things that were on my mind and heart—whether that meant leading women’s empowerment dance events, teaching fitness classes, being a mom, and more.
I firmly believe confidence and self-esteem are built in the process of building yourself—not something you simply think into existence and hope will appear.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Heels and Fitness Coach and the visionary behind the brand His Ambitious Girl LLC. My mission across both entities is to empower women through dance and fitness experiences—promoting Godfidence, sisterhood, self-love, and personal development.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three most powerful skills and qualities that have been most important in my journey are:
Resilience: The ability to bounce back after failure.
Trust: Trusting that God chose me for this assignment. He gave me the vision for a reason.
Initiative: Not waiting for others to hop on board or hand me an opportunity—but creating one for myself.
My advice to others is this: Follow the vision God placed in your heart, and be willing to pivot when He asks you to. Because at the end of the day, we work for God, not man.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book that’s currently playing an important role in my development is Rewrite Your Rules by Morgan DeBaun. One of the most valuable lessons I’m learning is how to transition from being the operator of my business to becoming its visionary. Morgan has an incredible way of showing the importance of focusing on the bigger picture—developing vision for both my company and my life—instead of getting stuck in day-to-day operational tasks.
Another key takeaway is the importance of being data-driven—tracking everything in the areas where I want to see change. I’ve been known to run my business based on passion and heart, but this book reminded me to ask: what do the numbers say? Even in my personal life, tracking progress in areas I want to improve helps me stay aligned. Real success is measurable success.
The final lesson I want to highlight is understanding the difference between my passions and my business endeavors. This was honestly the most helpful shift for me. It taught me to spend more time in building the things that will produce income, and less time trying to build in areas that are just my passions. The biggest revelation? I love dance, going to class, performing and making mini videos—but I’m no longer trying to be the best dancer. This book gave me the clarity and confidence to shift my focus and start building my next, which is His Ambitious Girl LLC.
