Meet Kayla Opore

We were lucky to catch up with Kayla Opore recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kayla, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.

My generosity comes from understanding that we are all human. For instance, my dad has never physically been present in my life. We have never lived under the same roof and there are times when I go years without seeing him. Ever since I was a kid, we mainly have conversations over the phone. Today, and for a while now, I have been conditioned to feel like this is a normal father daughter relationship. Many would think that I should hate or feel resentful about my dad for not physically being there but I don’t. I chose to forgive and understand. My dad never had a father figure and was told to be the man of the house at 8 years old after his dad left and never returned. I am grateful that my dad and I are still able to have conversations even if it isn’t physical because many don’t have a connection with their family members at all. I understand why my dad wasn’t the best traditional father to me since he never had one himself. This is where my generosity comes from because everyone goes through traumatic experiences, so I do not blame how those experiences affect certain people. We can all only try to be the best people we can be while we’re here!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’ve spent my entire life inspired by the world of entertainment. In 5th grade when I took my first acting class, I realized how passionate I truly was about this industry. In high school, I chose to take theatre and editing classes as my electives, and I loved every moment of being able to create with my friends and a team of people who enjoyed it as well. I also consistently posted on social media platforms like TikTok, which gained over 14,000 followers!
When I was fortunate enough to be able to attend Kennesaw State University in 2020, I was super excited to hear that they have a Media and Entertainment degree. Nothing felt more right! Since then, I have written, directed, and produced, a podcast, documentary, and many student film projects. I also joined a film group called For Film’s Sake and experienced what it takes to work on set. Aside from that, I continued my other passion and currently take acting classes every week! Recently, I was a stand-in for a big upcoming film in 2026! Through all these experiences, I have learned that every part and role of what it takes to create amazing content is important!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I’ve found that the three best skills and qualities to have is patience, confidence, and communication. Patience is key because great things take time! I always have to remind myself that “Rome wasn’t built in a day!” Creatively, the best projects usually take weeks, months or years until they are finally released to produce the best quality. Confidence is key because no one will believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself. No one wants to work with someone who isn’t sure of themselves. This can make you hard to trust since you don’t even trust yourself. Communication is key because if you don’t know how to respond accordingly or at a reasonable time, you can easily get left behind! I always remind myself to respond to every email or job opportunity even if I’m feeling anxious or unprepared. You never know who will like you for you! Even if you’re nervous, do it scared!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed I allow myself to cry because holding it all in is mentally draining. You don’t always have to be tough, you are human not a rock. Recently I have been feeling overwhelmed because I graduated college in May 2024 in Communications but haven’t landed any jobs in my field yet. That said, I’m currently a server at a restaurant. While working and applying for jobs in my field, I have also been trying to follow my passion as an actress. I take acting classes every week to submit for auditions. It’s all very overwhelming and time consuming. The best advice I give myself is to take baby steps. Doing a little bit for a few hours everyday and then resting after has been the best way! I must trust the process and my time will come!
