Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kayla Perlstein. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kayla, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
When I think about where my resilience comes from, the most honest answer is failure. Not the Instagram-pretty kind, but the uncomfortable, ego-checking, try-again-tomorrow kind. I was told “no” more times than I can count before I ever heard “yes.” And in my world, social media and entrepreneurship, failure isn’t an occasional detour, it’s part of the job. Every new idea is a risk. Every post is trial and error. Not every piece of content wins. Not every pitch lands. Not every goal is hit on the first try. I even had a business partnership that didn’t work out, and at the time, it felt like everything had fallen apart. But looking back, I wouldn’t be where I am today without that experience. Failure taught me to adjust, reorganize, and keep moving. It taught me that resilience isn’t about avoiding hard things, it’s about learning to stand back up, again and again, and trust that the climb is worth it.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Kayla Perlstein, and I am the Founder of Goldenbird Marketing. A fun part of our story that not many people know is that the name Goldenbird is actually a family name and it has been used across multiple generations and even in other family businesses. Carrying that forward feels meaningful, like there’s legacy and intention woven into the work we do every day.
Goldenbird Marketing is an organic social media marketing company focused on brand awareness, storytelling, and community building. I always say we do the work that most people don’t want to do or don’t have time to do, because it’s true. Social media can be overwhelming if you don’t live in it daily. Most people don’t know where to start, what to say, or how to show up consistently across platforms. That’s where we come in. We take the stress, guesswork, and strategy off our clients’ plates so they can focus on running their business while we help their brand show up clearly, confidently, and consistently online.
What I love most about Goldenbird is our people. Our clients are not just names in a project management system or invoices in a bookkeeping file. Many of them have become close friends, some close enough to be considered family. That kind of trust and connection is rare in business, and it’s something I’m deeply grateful for.
This past year has been one of tremendous growth for Goldenbird, our client list has expanded, our offerings have evolved, and our team has grown with it. And we’re just getting started. We’re building something special here, something rooted in creativity, collaboration, and genuine community.
We can’t wait to see where 2026 takes us.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that have had the biggest impact on my journey are: willingness to step outside my comfort zone, consistency, and organization. Ironically, I’m not someone who naturally loves big risks. I’m very calculated by nature. But over time, I realized that growth only happens when you’re willing to be uncomfortable. Starting Goldenbird required me to take a leap that felt huge at the time, and I’ve continued to stretch myself over and over again since. I’ve built a career that asks me to do the very thing I used to avoid: try something new before I feel “ready.”
The second quality is consistency. I don’t think success comes from doing one big thing, it comes from showing up day after day, even when progress feels slow or invisible. Social media, entrepreneurship, networking, client relationships, personal development, consistency is what moves the needle.
And third, I rely heavily on organization and prioritization. There are always a lot of moving pieces in marketing and business ownership. Being able to clearly identify what matters right now, what can wait, and what needs attention prevents things from falling through the cracks. That’s been a huge part of how I’ve been able to grow without burning out.
My advice for anyone early in their journey: Take the risk. Step outside your comfort zone. Say yes before you feel fully “ready.” Growth doesn’t happen in the familiar, it happens in the stretch. And once you take the leap, commit to consistency. Show up every day. Keep learning. Keep experimenting. You’ll be surprised how far you can go if you allow yourself to try, adjust, and keep moving.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When you work in social media and entrepreneurship, overwhelm often feels like the default setting. There are always moving parts, deadlines, notifications, messages, and decisions, sometimes all happening at once. I used to think the goal was to eliminate overwhelm, but I’ve learned that’s not realistic. The work is fast-paced by nature.
The most helpful advice I’ve ever received was from a friend who told me: “Do one thing for yourself every day.” It sounds simple, but it changed the way I show up. For me, that might be going to the gym, grabbing coffee, taking a walk, or just stepping away for a few minutes. Even 15 minutes can reset your energy and perspective.
It doesn’t solve the overwhelm, but it keeps you from losing yourself to it. The key is remembering that you are part of the equation. If you don’t take care of yourself, the work will eventually catch up. Burnout is real, and it happens quickly when you don’t pause long enough to breathe.
So my advice is this: Don’t wait for life or work to slow down. It probably won’t. Instead, build tiny moments of care into your day. Protect them. They’re what allow you to keep going with clarity, presence, and resilience.
