We recently connected with Kayla Taylor and have shared our conversation below.
Kayla, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Confidence and self-esteem didn’t happen overnight for me. It’s been a journey of self-discovery, trial, and learning to embrace who I am at every stage of my life. A big part of it came from personal style. Fashion has always been my creative outlet, and the more I leaned into dressing for me, not trends or other people’s opinions, the more I realized how powerful self-expression is.
I also had to unlearn the idea that confidence means always having it together. For me, confidence is knowing I don’t have to be perfect to take up space. I give myself permission to grow, evolve, and even mess up sometimes. And self-love? That’s a daily practice. It’s in the way I speak to myself, the way I care for my body and my mental health, and the boundaries I set.
At the end of the day, confidence is just about showing up as yourself unapologetically. And that’s something I work toward every day. Authenticity is freedom, and I learned that the year I turned thirty!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a style & beauty content creator and a styling team manager for an online personal styling company, but my journey in fashion started long before that. I’ve been in the retail industry since 2016, managing stores around the tri-state area and helping customers find confidence through style. For the past four years, I’ve specialized in online personal styling, leading a team and curating looks for a diverse range of clients. My background in fashion runs deep as I earned a degree in Apparel Merchandising from Bowling Green State University, which gave me a strong foundation in styling, buying, trend analysis, and the business side of fashion.
Almost a year ago, I took that passion further by creating content focused on personal style, confidence, and storytelling. My platform is all about inspiring women to embrace their natural beauty, self-love talks, experimenting with fashion, and feeling good in what they wear. I love mixing feminine and sporty elements, incorporating vintage finds, and showing how accessories can transform an outfit.
Right now, I’m focused on growing my platform and building a community centered around self-love and style. I’ve recently started incorporating more thrifted and vintage fashion into my content, challenging myself (and my audience) to reimagine pieces in fresh ways. I also have exciting collaborations coming up, including a solo date partnership with Gia and the Blooms and a beauty unboxing with Loreal
At the core of everything I do, whether it’s styling clients, managing my team, or creating content, is the belief that fashion is personal. My goal is to help others show up for themselves confidently and unapologetically!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are adaptability, confidence, and storytelling. Adaptability came from years in retail and styling, where I had to pivot quickly based on trends, client needs, and industry shifts. This taught me to embrace change instead of being afraid of it. Confidence was something I built over time by trusting my eye for style, leaning into my individuality, and learning that I don’t have to be perfect to show up! Storytelling has also been key in content creation, helping me connect with my audience beyond just outfits and inspire them through personal experiences. For those early in their journey, my advice is to stay curious and keep learning. Fashion and content creation are always evolving, so be open to growth. Confidence comes from action, so don’t wait until you feel “ready” to put yourself out there. And finally, don’t just share what you do; share why you do it because that’s what makes your perspective unique and resonate with people.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes! I’m always looking to collaborate with brands, creatives, and businesses that align with my focus on personal style, confidence, and self-expression. I’m especially interested in working with fashion, beauty, and lifestyle brands, particularly those that embrace inclusivity and individuality. Whether it’s styling campaigns, brand partnerships, or creative storytelling, I love collaborating in ways that feel authentic and engaging.
