Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaylah Casuccio. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kaylah, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I grew up always watching people and wishing I could be like someone else instead of diving into who I was. Over time and realizing this was hindering my self identity, I started to show up regardless of the messiness in the process. I didn’t have the aesthetics. I didn’t have the lifestyle. I felt as though I did not have the appearance. But I knew there was beauty in authenticity. I continued to build my social media presence and pushed myself to be better for me and not anyone else. Life truly evolved for me and it was because I wasn’t glorifying or comparing myself to another person’s journey. Confidence is a byproduct of your environment and how you see yourself. You have to believe so strongly in who you are and form habits around your life that over time amounts to increasing your self esteem.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Kaylah. I am born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. I am 26 years old and a single mother to my 7 year old son. I became a mother at 18 years old and while I was scared to take on the responsibilities of another life while just beginning mine, I soon realized the reasoning and the time for everything. I wanted a certain life for my son and I wanted to be a parent he could be proud of.
I began my influencer journey when I was 15 years old and went viral on YouTube. During my pregnancy, I realized I no longer resonated with YouTube so I began taking Instagram more seriously. My content focuses heavily on showing others that we all have the same 24 hours; it is up to you on what you do with those hours.
Even with being an influencer, I’ve always maintained a professional career as well. I’ve worked for my state’s government that allowed me to finish my college degree and obtain my real estate license to eventually venture into property management. I started my philanthropic journey with helping people have a second chance in life through supportive housing. That journey within itself really helped me to establish my confidence based on the work I was able to do on a day to day basis and making a difference. It unlocked so many networking opportunities for me when I started to scale my social media.
I also started doing direct sales which became a foundation and the forefront for me to start my own businesses. With my focus always being on how to help people improve and the content creation requirement for sales; my graphic design business became a no brainer for me. My success that stemmed from that journey also helped me to publish tips and tricks through digital products so that others could have the ability to learn and grow for themselves.
All of these sources have created a beautiful life for me and my son. My hope is for my son to always be confident in his ideas and skills to accomplish anything he sets out for in life. But it’s also important for me to have a good life outside of just being a mom in order to be a good mom. This is something so many of us fall short of. My goal is for other moms to see the same.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say knowing how to talk to people, knowing how to be trustworthy, and being genuine.
My advice for others starting their journey to develop this skillset would be to stop expecting perfect scenarios and allow yourself to learn in the process of developing yourself/your brand. Things will rub people the wrong way. People will disagree. People may not resonate with you. But that should not deter you from your journey. There will be people who will resonate with you and will support you. That’s why you have to stay focused on the good.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Ironically, my son is my biggest motivator and teacher. He teaches me how to be still, patient, and understanding. His insightfulness is what keeps me disciplined to learn new things, challenge myself, and become the best version of myself.
Growing up, I was always told I was the, “mom” of the group based on maturity. Having my son, Dominick, just truly created a new life for me. Life is not perfect for us but hearing my son say, “Mommy, we really have a good life” tells me that I am successful and only evolving. He will never realize how much he inspires me.
