Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaylynn Hunt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kaylynn, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Honestly, I can’t say that I’ve fully overcome it. It’s a constant battle of wills—a voice that questions my achievements and a determination to silence it. Whenever those doubts creep in, I remind myself of the facts: I did this. I wrote the books, I created the stories, and that’s no small feat. Completing a book, in itself, is a monumental accomplishment, and I make it a point to celebrate that.
What helps the most is grounding myself in my progress and passion. I focus on the joy of storytelling and the connections my work has made with readers. Every time someone says they’ve been moved, inspired, or entertained by what I’ve written, it reinforces that I belong here. Imposter syndrome may linger, but acknowledging my journey and owning my successes helps me keep moving forward.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As a multi-genre author, my passion lies in surprising my readers with the unexpected—whether through intricate plots, unique characters, or twists they never see coming. Writing has always been a love of mine, but it wasn’t until the recession of 2006/2007, during a period of reflection and downtime, that I decided to turn this passion into something tangible. With self-publishing becoming more accessible, I took the leap and, in 2011, published my debut novel, Love With A Vengeance. I haven’t looked back since.
I thrive on challenging myself creatively, constantly exploring new storylines and characters. My journey has been about growth and pushing boundaries, and now I’m expanding into screenwriting. My first project in this exciting new venture is an adaptation of HWY 725, a thriller co-written with other talented creatives. The story centers around a grieving family whose coping methods spiral into deadly consequences.
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to have an incredible support system. EyeCU Reading and Social Network, a phenomenal book club, has been with me from the beginning. Their encouragement has been invaluable, and through our online Facebook group, EyeCU Reading and Chatting, I’ve found a wellspring of inspiration. Our weekly segment, Freestyle Friday, has been particularly impactful, sparking new ideas and characters that have even evolved into The Freestyle Cyphers—a collaborative anthology series spanning multiple genres and showcasing the talents of many authors.
Looking ahead, I’m focused on expanding my reach as a storyteller, connecting with more readers, and exploring new mediums like film. Writing is more than just a career—it’s my way of sharing stories that resonate, surprise, and inspire.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Imagination, determination, and resilience have been the cornerstones of my writing journey. Imagination comes first, as it fuels the creation of intricate plot twists, layered characters, and immersive worlds that resonate with readers. Determination has kept me going during moments of doubt, reminding me why I started this journey in the first place. And resilience has been essential, allowing me to bounce back from setbacks, adapt to challenges, and continuously seek opportunities to grow and connect with readers.
For anyone just starting out, my advice is simple: don’t give up. Start where you are, and don’t be afraid to take imperfect action. Keep learning, improving your craft, and expanding your horizons. Read widely, write often, and remember that every step—no matter how small—brings you closer to your goals. The path may be challenging, but the rewards are worth it.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Marketing is undoubtedly my biggest challenge right now. Writing comes naturally to me, but reaching the right audience and ensuring my stories get the visibility they deserve requires a completely different skill set. With so many platforms and strategies available, it can feel overwhelming to figure out what works best.
To overcome this, I’ve been focusing on learning and experimenting with various approaches. I’m leveraging social media to connect directly with readers, engaging with book clubs and communities like EyeCU Reading and Chatting, and collaborating with other authors to expand my reach. I’m also exploring targeted advertising and email marketing to build a stronger and more engaged audience.
While it’s a work in progress, I’m committed to improving my marketing skills because I believe in my stories and their ability to resonate with readers. It’s a challenge, but one I’m determined to tackle head-on.
