Meet KD Stout

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to KD Stout. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

KD, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I started drawing when I was 3 years old. My dad, uncle, and grandfather were artists as well. While growing up, those three men became my art teacher. I never stopped working with art. I also find it therapeutic. I had a rough time in elementary school, and after school, I did a lot of drawings and it helped me get through the rest of the day.

I started writing stories when I was 12 years old. Fictional characters where appearing inside my head. I had strong feelings that I knew I needed to put them on paper. However, I did get my first book published when I was 33 years old. Five years after that, I got my second book published.

I still like to use my art and writing as therapy projects.

Ten years ago, I started my own online art shop through Redbubble. Keeping it updated with new art pieces have been a joy, and I would like to keep it up as long as I can. I do have people that enjoy my art, and that makes me happy. I do call myself an independent artist and writer.

My art shop is definitely what keeps me motivated to keep me going with my creativity.

I am hoping that someday, I will get to publish a graphic novel.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Since I am an independent writer, my novels will be found on Amazon. My art pieces can be found on Redbubble.

I will admit my work was a struggle to make them possible, especially before the internet came about. It was hard to get your novels published and advertise them. It was the same way with my art. I have been grateful for these places that allow independent talents get their names and work shown.

I also display a lot of my art on my Instagram: kdstoutartistauthor. I also have a Facebook page: KD Stout.

I am hoping that some day, I will get to work on a graphic novel, and a prequel to my novel “We’re Finally On Our Own”.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Of course, I think practicing on your talents in important. It does improve your skills. Mingling with people that want to share the same talent as you is also a good way to go and learn as much as you can from them. If you truly believe in your talents and your wishes, you will be able to find ways to make them possible. You might go through some bumps along your journey, but don’t give up. If you need to find a different route to make your goals or wishes come true, then go for it.

It took me 2o years to get my dreams started. Don’t let time discourage you in making your dreams and goals a reality.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Well, to be honest with you, for many years, I have dreams of working with or for Jim Henson’s Company’s art department or help them with designing. I think it would be fun. I have communicated with some of the people who have worked with or at the company, and they have been nice people.

For now, I am working on building a propriate art portfolio to present to Jim Henson’s Company.
