Meet Keaun Adams

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keaun Adams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Keaun, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

I like to take advantage of the opportunity! When I am the only one in the room that looks like me, I tend to sometimes get nervous or anxious because I’ll start to think that I cannot fit in. But it is not fitting in and staying true to myself that has gotten me to the heights thus I have reached thus far. It’s important to know your value and self -worth, and that way any room you walk into you can have your head held high and see no competition.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

In the world of Keaun you can find an array of services and talents. Since the beginning of 2024 I have been blessed to begin a new Journey on the path to my success of my career and that is acting. I am a new rising actor and have had the opportunity to film for Netflix, CW, Tubi, and ABC alongside amazing producers and cast mates and can’t wait to hit the big screens soon.

Aside from my acting career, I am most known for my choreography and my company “Banjis Talent and Dance Company”. These two tie hand and hand, with me being a creative director I needed a source of talents that I’d be able to pull from for each of my crazy ideas I have in my head and bring them to life, that’s where BTDC comes into play. BTDC is a career development company for fine art creatives especially with dance, modeling, and other commercial interest., specifically for those who have a hard time fitting in or find themselves different. We have been able to travel, preform, and book all within the span of two years.

I am a dance instructor over at She’meka Ann Studios Houston location, where I teach open level dance classes. My classes are great for people who want to gain confidence, train commercially, and just simply dance let loose.

To keep myself busy I am also involved in various other career developing jobs/hobbies such as modeling for fashion shows and brands, creating content for my new podcast “Kackle” and my YouTube channel both re-releasing in June !

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Faith

– Staying strong in my Faith and having trust in God is what leads me to take risking feel confident doing so. Without doing such things I wouldn’t have been able to walk the stages, carpets, and into important rooms that I’ve been blessed too so far. Sometimes we don’t have the answers we want in order to take take the next step, but I’ve learned with faith that sometimes we don’t need an answer and just to put our trust into God’s hands where all the answers are.

2. Self-Evaluation

– Having confidence is great, but it is important to know what areas in your career or life need improvement or more time to work things out. In my case, I am aware that I have many gifts/talents all capable of getting me to the success I want to achieve but I am also aware that some of them can use more development and time to improve before showcasing them to the wold. Once- you have evaluated yourself and approve of the things you want to put out into the public eye, any hate or negative criticism wont’ be taken to heart and you will gain more respect for yourself and your craft. Remember that we see ourselves different than how the world sees us.

3. Independence

– Support is something I thought I couldn’t live without until it wasn’t there. Unfortunately the world is not a fair place especially for those who stay true to themselves, break stereotypes and are different from the rest. People may not support what they don’t know which is why me and others with similar mindsets might not get as much. However, at the end of the day I walk with my head held high in doing what makes me happy because I am truly all I can control. I cannot force anyone to support, invest, or commit to my visions because we all have a mind of our own and people will feel how they want to feel. So with that being said aside from faith you have to believe in yourself and have some level of independence, because you cannot account for anyone but yourself.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

Support. Being different and independent comes with its advantages and disadvantages. Sadly for me, I do not receive much support from the dance community and mainly because I don’t dance or choreogrpah like the rest. We live in a trendy society and especially with the expansion of social media platforms, everyone has a picture image of how choreography /dancers are supposed to look in their head and because of society if you look otherwise you are sometimes valued not good enough or less than.

Aside from dance, I also lack support in my surrounding talents which sometimes makes me just want to give up. In my head when someone doesn’t support, it is showing me that they are uninterested thereby making me uninteresting, ultimately making my product a waste of time. However due to my strength in faith it strives me to keep pushing my limits.

Thought I truly believe that I I got the support that I work so hard for then new doors could open for me and others like me, but no matter what my biggest support if God and I am beyond grateful for those who do support me and have invests time into my creations!
