Meet Kebah Lott

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kebah Lott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kebah below.

Kebah, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

At times, it has felt like content creation and imposter syndrome go hand in hand. I would have a video go viral or get an email from a brand wanting to collab or invite me to their event and I would immediately question what others were seeing in me.
I have been creating content for a little over 4 years now and I have had to prime my mind in a way completely different from how I started.
I no longer hyper-fixate on numbers- followers, viewers, saves. Of course I am always grateful for the support I receive, but my focus is now just putting out content that I am proud of and truly engaging with the community I have built from my love of fashion & style. When I receive collab requests or invites, I remind myself that I earned the opportunity and that being authentically myself will always be rewarding.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Retail Therapy with Kebah is more than just an Instagram page where I share fashion & style content. It is a lifestyle, it is a brand. It is me combining my formal education in Clinical Psychology and my love for fashion and investing in the business of making others feel good. I use my platform to make fashion feel more attainable to all and help inform their decision making as they discover their personal style. I have been personal styling and shopping for clients in addition to creating content and merging the two worlds has been great. I am offering a personal shopping membership soon; people can subscribe and receive exclusive drops to vintage designer finds, make sourcing requests, and get help styling pieces in their wardrobe at a monthly rate.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

knowing your “why”, finding your voice, and confidence.
If you are starting early in your career as a creative, take time to flush out why you create. Knowing what drives you will help you show up authentically and convey your message or passion in your voice. As content creation becomes more popular and everyone is searching for their viral moment, I have to stay grounded in why I create content. I want to help other people feel more confident in their bodies, more confident in how they express themselves through style. I recognize that not every video I make will reach 20k views, but if there is one person who walked away with something that helps them feel better in their clothes, then I have accomplished my why.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My mother has always encouraged me to go after my dreams and to be fearless in my pursuits. Even when she did not understand why I wanted to do something, she supported me in my efforts and let me know that she would always be there for me. It gave me the courage to reach beyond the skies, knowing I had her to catch me if I were to stumble along the way.
