Meet Keisha Bussey

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keisha Bussey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keisha below.

Hi Keisha, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose as a dancer in my desire to motivate and encourage less fortunate children who are deserving of reading about someone who looks like them. There were not too many children books written about African American dancers and I wanted to be an inspiration to the next generation. I have been purpose-driven for many years in what I love to do while educating the next generations to come.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

She was nominated for the HABBSE award in 2021-2022. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and an active member of Alpha Kappa Omega Houston Area.

The most exciting thing I love is that I get to share my children’s book with the world and let boys and girls know that you can have a “Chance To Dance,” Her books are available in English edition and Spanish edition. She also has a chapter book and a “Keisha”, plush doll. Her brand is growing each day. As we are growing our brand there will be more coming out this year. Keep a look out for us!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important things that have been most impactful in my journey is learning what will work for my brand, collaborating with others, and ensuring I am representing for diversity. In business, you have to learn how to collaborate with other small businesses and network at different events to let everyone know who you are. Lastly, the most impactful advice I have for aspiring entrepreneurs is to find a good mentor to guide you through the journey.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
“The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to make sure I was exposed to reading , dance styles, and being a part of diverse people from different cultures. They also allowed me “ A Chance To Dance & “Dream Big”, as my number one supporters cheering me on , encouraging me to do my best and Never Give Up on my dreams. My books are dedicated to both my parents Charles J. Bussey Jr. and Gwendolyn-Bussey Russell. Now both of my parents are deceased and we just lost our Mama “Gwendolyn”, in December 2021. However, my parents words continue to inspire me to to live out my dreams and motivate little children to dream even bigger!
