We were lucky to catch up with Keisha Shurland recently and have shared our conversation below.
Keisha, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I believe my resilience was birthed from the many obstacles I have faced as well as my strong faith in God. I grew up in a Christian household and always had an awareness of and appreciation for God.
Two of the major events that occurred that strengthened my resilience was getting a divorce and the loss of my mother. I experienced immense pain and grief and had to find a way to get back up and continue to face life day by day.
I would read my bible, worship and cry out to God for strength each and everyday. Through these events I started on my personal development journey through following Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi, among others. I also incorporate mindset training and affirmations into my daily routine.
I also knew that God wanted more for me and I had to keep going because I am the eldest of all my cousins and siblings, so they looked up to me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Keisha Shurland, from the beautiful island of Barbados and I am a Women’s Empowerment Coach and Speaker. I help women break free from self doubt, recognize their God given gifts and embrace a life of purpose. I feel that many women go through some major life challenges and can become stuck and disempowered and I like when I can see the joy on their faces when they are able to discover their next step and their unique gifts to take their lives to the next level.
I am passionate about helping women and girls and I will be hosting my first conference here in Barbados on March 8th 2025, International Women’s Day entitled Woman Arise: Step Into Purpose. We have an amazing line-up of award winning speakers and many surprises.
This conference is a transformative event designed to empower women to achieve their goals, have faith in their vision, and boldly step into their God-given purpose.
I will also be launching a new coaching program on that day as well, so I am excited about the transformation that is going to take place.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities in my journey would be resilience, a willingness to learn and working on my mindset.
I would encourage others to be lifelong learners because we all can learn something from each other, to look at challenges as oppurtunities to grow and don’t give up, always rise. Finally look for mentors and coaches who have walked the path you want to go on, invest in yourself and be teachable.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes I would love to collaborate with Christian minded entrepreneurs (coaches and speakers) who have a growth mindset and whose focus is on women’s and girls empowerment. They can connect with me on Facebook at Keisha Shurland
