We were lucky to catch up with Kela Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kela , so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been persistent. Once I set a goal, my mind is focused on completing that goal! I decided when I was younger that I wanted to be a Fashion Designer, and I wanted to one day own my own boutique. Becoming a single mother in the midst of this goal has been completely overwhelming, however it pushes me to excel even further because I’m going to leave a legacy for my children, grandchildren, and those that follow behind them. It’s very disappointing when instead of collaboration, fake friends and family members want to copy what I do with hopes to excel further than me just to prove a point. I ignore the shade and continue to move like the boss and leader I AM. I take risk, explore uncharted territory, and Pray!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a Fashion/Accessories Deisgner. I also own my own predominantly vegan /plant based cosmetics line. I love making people look good! Building self confidence and self esteems of people who never expected to be stylish brings me so much joy! It’s not what you wear, but how you combine pieces of this and pieces of that to enhance your look. I’ve just started a fashion styling service and my first client is Nanseera Wolff. She’s an amazing singer and has entrusted Exclusively Kela to take her image to the next level. I’m also adding clothing and accessories to my website so that Exclusively Kela will be a one stop shop for your fashion and beauty needs. 2024 is going to be an amazing year!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’m personable, a trendsetter, and I’m a great listener. Be open to networking and building relationships with people. Treat these people like family because people never forget good energy. Start trends, be a risk taker, and don’t be afraid to try something different with your look! Lastly listen to what people say they like or want. Listening is an art and very few people miss details that have an impact on their success!
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate with singers, artist, photographers, and anyone interested in doing fashion events. Please reach out to me via email or social media.
