Meet Kelli Chandler

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelli Chandler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Kelli, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Whew…………this a tough one, and a real issue. I find it fascinating when I talk with business owners who never deal with “imposter syndrome.” There are people born and raised knowing they were made to be the boss. Others prefer to stay worker bees. I fall somewhere in between but with a strong opinion of how I want my practice to run. My husband says “you can either work for the man or be the man” so I jumped straight into entrepreneurship when I wanted to do things differently. I still wake up and think “who gave me permission to be in charge?”. And then I realize, I did! Concierge Orthopedics enables all physical therapists to be entrepreneurs. The only person we need permission from is ourselves. We are smart, we are capable, and we are all equipped to run the practice we want. The only question is, when? So when that imposter syndrome sneaks in I remind myself of my why. My “why” includes meeting my patients where and when most benefits them, showing medical providers and patients what physical therapists are capable of when taken outside of insurance restrictions, and empowering all like minded providers to do the same!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At Concierge Orthopedics we often say “get back to what you love.” Whether it’s return to patient care or return to sport, we want to assist our providers and patients alike in maximizing their quality of life. I formed Concierge Orthopedics as a way to bring physical therapy to my patient’s homes and step outside the “box” insurance typically places our field into. I feel passionate that our patients deserve the best care available, regardless of reimbursement. Over eight years I’ve talked thousands of frustrated patients and PTs. Two years ago CO created our new business model by using a licensing agreement to launch 40 new locations nationwide. We empower patients and providers to receive the care they need and this is what excites me the most as a business owner.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Flexibility: Often my day doesn’t go the way it looked like it would at 7 am. I’ve learned to operate in 15-minute slices of time to make sure every minute is effective. When someone cancels, I sneak in a blog post. When they run late, I research more groups to target with my local marketing. Humility: Because you don’t know what you don’t know. Allow yourself to be a perpetual student and learn from those around you. Even new grads!
Creativity: Change is inevitable so let’s make it look good! I lean heavily on my team to help see problems from different angles and create content that is beautiful and informational. Knowing where I am weak in creativity allows me to seek out individuals for my team that are strong. On the CO leadership team we have our own social media director, Kayley Hall, as well as a recruiter Dr. Shania Grode. They keep me looking through different lenses to maximize our potential.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Concierge Orthopedics is always looking for more collaboration. We aim to help more physical therapists in the country to set up their own concierge practices. Building practices requires help from social media and content creators, recruiters, marketers, the list goes on and on.
