We recently connected with Kelli Russell and have shared our conversation below.
Kelli, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose at age 12. I kept noticing that the adults around me didn’t seem to like their spouses very much, and complained about their work. I thought, “Why would someone create a life they didn’t like?” I decided right then to become a psychologist to figure it out and to be able to help people change that.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Even though I trained as a Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist, I realized that talk therapy alone wasn’t always the most effective route to real change. Later, I understood why: the subconscious mind controls about 95% of what we do.
About nine years ago, I pursued additional training in Psychological Kinesiology and Emotional Energy Therapy. This allowed me to help people access the stress patterns within themselves and switch them off, replacing them with positive, powerful beliefs that resonate as truth throughout their entire body-mind system—even while fully alert.
Now, I get to guide people as they turn fear into courage, worry into trust, and stress into resilience. It’s incredibly rewarding to support people in this way and see them experience the changes that help them reach their goals and live life differently!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most essential qualities in the work I do are:
Openness to seeking out unconventional methods. My formal education in psychology and marriage and family therapy never even mentioned energy healing or psychological kinesiology! I’m so grateful I took that extra step to explore these methods, because they’ve opened the door to transformative outcomes for my clients.
Confidence. Knowing that you can accomplish just about anything if you have a clear desire and focus is a game-changer. You’re never too old, not smart enough, or lacking in any way to learn new skills or shift your path—most of those beliefs holding us back are lies we’ve been taught. As long as you’re breathing, you can make a change.
Resilience. When we feel exhausted or weighed down, that’s when it’s essential to put one foot in front of the other, moving forward even when it’s hard. It’s what gets us through the inevitable ups and downs of life. Life is a roller coaster! Choosing resilience helps us move through the most challenging times.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I was so lucky to have a hippie mom who told me (I especially remember this from about 12-16) that I could do anything! Kelli – you should become a drummer and join a band! You’d make a great newscaster on TV! Forget college, you should travel the world! You can be a tennis star! (I didn’t even like or play tennis!!! 🤣). This created a mindset where I thought, “Well, if I can do anything, what do I TRULY WANT TO DO?” And I did that!.
When I was in college, there were some people in their 70s and 80s attending classes, which I found so inspiring—it was proof that we can keep learning and growing at any age! My grandmother is another beautiful example. After raising five kids alone following her divorce from an alcoholic husband, she later remarried and shared 17 wonderful years with a loving partner until he passed away. Then, at 80, she found a new love—a boyfriend ten years younger! They eventually married, and she adored him until she passed away at 97. Her life showed me that we can always learn new things and find deep love, no matter our age. I feel so grateful to have witnessed it firsthand.
I also follow accounts on Instagram and TikTok with seniors doing incredible things in fitness and fashion because I want continual reminders of what’s possible. These stories and beliefs fuel me and my work with clients, helping them see and experience these same possibilities in their own lives.
