Meet Kellie Boston

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kellie Boston. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kellie , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Leaving the corporate world fully about 16 years ago was scary and refreshing at the same time. I had originally went school to for Marine Biology and held several professional careers with this degree at places like Disney’s The Living Seas (now the Seas with Nemo and Friends), the Department of Environmental Protection for the State of Florida and an Environmental Consulting Firm that served large corporations, military bases, etc… But I found myself being pulled to do something else. I was raised in rural West Virginia. My parents divorced when I was only 5 years old. Both of my parent’s were extremely hard workers, my father a professional jockey and my mother a drywaller. I watched both of them work diligently my whole life. While they had mastered the physicality of their jobs, I often witnessed many times where financially providing for their households were extremely difficult. I knew early on I never wanted to depend on anyone else for my finances.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

In 2007, I started my entrepreneurial journey by opening up my photography business, Boston Photography LLC. At the time, my husband and I were living in Virginia, had a toddler (1st child-son Tytus) and had recently watched my Mother lose her battle with cancer. I was ready for a change. I always say ” I eat change for breakfast”…..I thrive on change. Prior to opening my own business and still working my Environmental Consulting job, I started working part-time for a photography studio and taking college courses for photography, just absorbing all of it in. Fast forward a couple years and my husband and I welcomed our second child (daughter Ella) in 2008 and were ready for another change….we wanted to get back to FL. In 2009, we made the move to FL and that is where I was able to fully focus on my business. We eventually settled into Amelia Island, FL, a quaint island community that has been so good to our business. I hustled every day to get known in the community. “Boston Photography” volunteered services for many local charities, was at every event possible, joined networking groups, joined the chamber and just made sure to be authentic. I, myself stand out….you will never see me with “normal colored hair”, it may be hot pink, green, rainbow….you never know but always fun and funky…..Today, Boston Photography LLC is fortunate to be a top photography studio in our area. We shoot for 4 publications in the area along with our standard studio work. Boston Photography was named Small Business of the Year this past year in our county by our local Chamber.

So let’s go to my second business, Yoga! I decided to welcome yoga into my life about 2.5 years ago, mainly because as a Type A entrepreneur, mom of two, caregiver to my husband….I needed to learn how to “slow my roll”. I wanted to learn yoga for my own practice. But quickly fell in love with the art of teaching it and helping others explore yoga and allow it to help them too. I just rebranded my yoga business, EcoYoga LLC, where I focus on leading and practicing yoga in the outdoor environment. Whether I am teaching beach yoga on the sand or paddleboard yoga on the water, I am experiencing nature….its healing effects and sharing it with all that come.

Below is my website description of EcoYoga.

EcoYoga offers a holistic yoga experience that intertwines guest wellness with environmental stewardship. Their innovative “mobile studio” concept is designed to immerse participants in the natural splendor of their surroundings while nurturing their inner selves.

From serene beachside sessions to invigorating stand-up paddleboard yoga on the water, their classes are crafted to harmonize with nature’s rhythms. They also cater to private events and parties, bringing unique yoga experiences to your chosen location.

At EcoYoga, each class is a new adventure, carefully curated to offer fresh perspectives and challenges.

EcoYoga is committed to continual evolution, regularly refining its practice to incorporate the latest insights and techniques. This commitment extends to youth camps, where they inspire young minds to embrace the transformative power of yoga while fostering a deep connection to the natural world.

Join EcoYoga in embracing the profound synergy between mind, body, and nature, as they nourish and energize through the practice of yoga in harmony with the planet.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1)Be Authentic (do you….no else one can be you…market that), 2)Be visible (People do business with others they like, know and trust, so don’t hide. It is important to be out in your community being a great citizen, being respectful and respected, being present for the important things to those around you). 3)Provide an experience …I learned early on in my Disney days….. you are “ALWAYS ONSTAGE”. Take care of your clients as if they were your best friends, make the experience fun, seamless, hassle-free.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

I would use my husband’s health as the number one obstacle right now. Our children are teenagers now, one just finished his 2nd year in college and the other is a rising Junior. If there is one thing I have learned in the last 6 months with having to live away from our kids in a completely different state and dealing with almost losing my husband multiple times….it is I can’t control everything. My yoga experience truly helped me immensely with this. The breathwork and the philosophy of just being present was an anchor in this experience.
