Meet Kellie Finch

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kellie Finch a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kellie, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from watching my parents from a very young age. They both are extremely hardworking, intelligent and resilient people. They instilled work ethic and values that I still hold dear to this day. Those values ring true as I run multiple business. They help me maintain on the days where I don’t feel motivated to keep going.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a branding, wedding and lifestyle photographer. I started my photography business, KFinch Photography in 2005. Im based in Baltimore, Maryland and I serve the surrounding areas. My client would describe me as fun, bubbly and vibrant, I like to have fun while shooting. I love for my clients to feel good when they are with me. I like to highlight and bring out the best in people. Just like my personality, my work aligns with that my photography is very bright, vibrant and fun. The goal for me is for people to be able to feel my images in a way that invokes raw emotion.

Aside from that, I opened a creative space in 2022 called Faven Creative Studio also based in Maryland. The name “Faven” is the Eritrean word for “Radiant bright light”. I wanted the space to align with who I am and what I want to bring to my clients. I wanted the space to be a safe space for people to create. Faven comes complete with 7 photogenic sets for photoshoots, film productions photography and events. It’s been a hit since we’ve opened.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’ve been a full time entrepreneur since 2019. I quit my full-time job, fired my boss and hire myself. But before then working various jobs I learned timeliness, integrity, administrative skills and so much more. Those skills have helped me maintain a certain level of professionalism that I implement in my business today. Making sure I’m creating an atmosphere of excellence for my clients is so important to me.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
While there have been countless things my parents have done for me, I would say at this stage in my journey the most impactful thing both my mother and father has done was to validate my gifting and my ability to fun my own business.

When I was on the fence about quitting my job, it was really important to me to have their blessings and their advice. They were the first people that I shared my thoughts with. They have been so supportive throughout the entire process.
