Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelly Battaglino. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Kelly with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I hands down get my work ethic from my mom. I wouldn’t be anywhere near as hard of a worker if it weren’t for her example. No matter what she does, she gives it her absolute all, hustles her hardest, and that’s a trait I admire and hope to replicate.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I own a boutique by the name of Good Karma in Manasquan, New Jersey. I opened the doors to my store at 22 years old. Good Karma was born as a dream, and continued on as a vision brought to life. My goal isn’t just to provide cute clothes and gifts, but to make Good Karma a way life. We aim to give our customers a great shopping experience, and know that everyone should be treated with kindness. I believe the joy in both giving and getting Good Karma goes a long way. One of the things I’m most passionate about, is supporting other woman-owned local businesses. You can always find pop up shops happening here with some of our favorite people and brands!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the three most important things I’ve learned are resilience, patience, and strategy. Building a business to where you want it to be takes a lot of work and time. You have to push through a lot of obstacles such as doubt from yourself and others, wait out times of uncertainty, and develop multiple plans of action over the course of operating a business. Always think ahead, always put new ideas into action, never stop creating new things.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Being a business owner can get overwhelming at times, but I like to remind myself that it’s always okay to step back and take a break when I need to. No matter how much I have on my to-do list, I will not be truly productive without allowing myself to rest and have a clear head. Overworking myself while already feeling overwhelmed has such a negative effect on both me and my business, and I like to try to keep myself balanced as much as possible.
