Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelly Davlos. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelly, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I am certain my resiliency comes from my parents, but particularly my mom. They are immigrants from Vietnam following the war, and settled in the States, Texas to be exact. They are survivalists. I was the first of my family to be American born. My parents came to America with nothing and built a successful life for us, while experiencing hardships and discrimination. They were able to rise above it all. From them, I learned that in America, you can achieve success through resiliency, determination, and hard work. With the inherent freedoms, we are able to have dreams and reach them.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I work with people that want to find a deeper connection with their homes/spaces. Our home directly mirrors our energy…our psyche, and when we recognize this, we can make subtle shifts using feng shui wisdoms to transform our lives. Feng shui is a philosophy and art that creates mindfulness around your home/space. It is a form of healing, self discovery, and therapy. With mindfulness, we can focus on an intentional design that has purpose and beauty. Chi starts to flow freely and subtle shifts begin to change one’s path.
My holistic approach is to start with wellness and health, as this is foundation to every other aspect of our lives, from love and family relations to career and abundance. This is where I began my personal feng shui journey while going through health struggles that forced me to seek therapy outside the conventional. Like my acupuncture treatments, I was able to apply similar Eastern principles in feng shui to help me heal through my home. To my surprise, using Traditional Chinese Medicine and feng shui cures, I was able to heal and shockingly get pregnant and become a mother, despite Western medical prognosis. Understanding the chi within myself and my own home is what made feng shui so special and dear to me. Hence, I wanted to shine a light for others to heal with these wisdoms.
The goal of providing any of my services is to promote supportive, peaceful, warm and nourishing spaces. Not only do I love working one on one with clients, I am extending my services by collaborating with other aligned brands/businesses that embrace feng shui philosophies.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Empathy: As an empath with deep intuition, I have the super power to be an excellent listener with patience and understanding. I’m told I’m “too sensitive” or “too emotional”. However, this gives me the ability to be an effective Feng Shui Practitioner, given I am sensitive to other’s needs, and I can sense energy in a space.
Creativity: Having creativity is key to providing personalized solutions. I have cultivated my creativity so that I can provide offerings for my clients that’s outside the box. Having knowledge is one thing, but creativity takes application of the knowledge and combining that with my innate senses and life experiences.
Collaboration: I am thankful for all those that have motivated me in this journey through collaborative processes. Collaboration skills consist of being open minded, having emotional intelligence, and clear communication. Great achievements are done with cooperation and help. Asking for help is not easy for me, but I’m learning and making progress.
Developing skills for success takes patience and time. Some of the skills are innate, but most are cultivated from experiences. Find mentors that can provide honest feedback. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents have always provided me with stability, even when they faced their own hardships. Like I mentioned, as immigrants, they worked really hard to build a foundation for the family. Foundation also meant community and collaboration. From this foundation, I grew up knowing the importance of family and friendship connections. I knew what to strive for when starting my own family. As a mother now, I am so grateful for this. I can now pass this along to my daughter.
