We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kelly Doering a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
After a tumor that was 14 and a half centimeters was discovered in my chest and I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, in July 2016. I realized my purpose was to to fight cancer in order to stay alive and my intuition and my body kept giving me messages on working with Cannabis to fight cancer. In August 2016, I moved to Colorado Springs and started working with Cannabis oil to shrink the tumor. Unfortunately, I ended up going through some rounds of chemotherapy too and cannabis oil really helped with those side effects as well. During my healing journey fighting cancer, I was surprised there still wasn’t a lot of medical research and information on the health benefits of cannabis. I wanted to share my experiences working with cannabis oil to fight cancer to empower others and help them realize “cancer is not a death sentence.” When I found out I was in remission in January 2020, I decided to start writing a book on my true story fighting Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma with cannabis. I wanted to educate others on how cannabis was used in many medicines for thousands of years in the past and share my healing experiences while I fought cancer with cannabis oil too. I found my purpose helping others by writing my book, Rocky Mountain High Priestess, One Woman’s Courageous Healing Journey Using Cannabis To Fight Cancer, to empower other cancer warriors so they can be more confident while fighting cancer too.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve been offering massage therapy, reiki, shamanic journeys, astrology and teaching yoga for about 20 years. I’ve also been interested in nutrition and herbal remedies my whole life and passionate about learning natural medicines; like cannabis. I’ve been an entrepreneur in Colorado, since July 2021 and started my own massage therapy business. I share my offerings at Feel Better Massage in Buena Vista. Sometime in January, I’ll be having a book signing party. I’m excited to help others fighting cancer and have opportunities to share my story by going to cannabis and holistic healing events. I’m also thrilled to in the process of making my book into an audiobook which will be available next year.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey, fighting cancer with cannabis, I think the 3 things that were the most impactful were having some experience working with cannabis and my ability to research information on cannabis, my resilience that I’ve gained by practicing meditation, yoga and breath work helped me physically and mentally fight cancer and maintain a positive attitude, my self awareness that I gained by incorporating all of the skills I’ve learned since I started practicing massage, reiki, shamanic journeys, astrology, yoga and meditation. All of these aspects helped me learn more about my healing journey.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’d like to collaborate with others in the cannabis, holistic healing and media arts industries. I’m currently trying to record an audiobook but I don’t have experience and would be open to paying or trading with someone that is interested in this work or looking for experience doing this type of work. I’m also looking for venues to be a part of next year where I can sell my book, Rocky Mountain High Priestess and share other offerings, like massages, reiki and astrology and tarot readings. I can also facilitate cannabis friendly yoga classes and gardening classes and speak at events for people that are interested in hearing more about fighting cancer with cannabis.
