We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kelly Houseman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kelly below.
Kelly, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
There is no way to overcome imposter syndrome other than getting out there and doing the thing you fear the most. You can sit and prepare and discuss and research but, at the end of the day, it is proving to yourself that you can indeed “do the thing” that will give you the most confidence and reassurance. Do it scared, do it not believing in yourself, do it shaking but get out there and do it.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a licensed therapist, mental health advocate, public speaker, podcast host, and wellness expert based in the Metro-Detroit area. I have dedicated my career to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues, I bring my unique insight and humor to address current topics, from the impacts of social media to living a meaningful life .
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Realizing you don’t have to be perfect or have all the answers to make a difference in the world. Life is a learning process even for professionals. Also not being too hard on yourself when you make a mistake. Taking this as a learning and growth opportunity. Even those in the top of their field are always improving and can be coached.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love working with those who are passionate about spreading the word of therapy and the benefits of it. Anyone who would like to share their experiences or stories or just simply advocate I am always so excited to hear from 🙂 Mental health affects every industry, person and experience so the possibilities are endless.
