We were lucky to catch up with Kelly Punancy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
The journey into finding your purpose looks different for everyone. There are no signs guiding us to what might be our purpose and so you will get lost at times and even take some detours. As for me and my journey, well you can say it took me a while and a lot of searching to find it. After working in the corporate world for years and not feeling accomplished or fulfilled I realized I needed a change and I needed one fast. Your life’s purpose should be something that fires you up, makes you happy and it allows to use your talents mixed in with something you are passionate about. What I do now allows just that. Creating my small business within the event industry allows me to use my talents, creativity and makes me so happy especially when I offer a product that brings my clients so much joy. I now get to wake up and do something that aligns with my values, allows me to be true to who I am and feels just right. I found my purpose when I let go of fear and stopped caring of what others might think and followed my own passion, my own ideas and my own definition of happiness. Everything else will follow. “For nothing is impossible with God” – Luke 1:37
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Let’s rewind it back to 2021 where it all began with a vision and a husband that follows along with all my crazy ideas. At this point my husband (fiancé at the time) had already proposed and we were in full swing planning our BIG day! Picking out cake, DJ, attire, venue and then it all came to choosing the bar element. That’s when we were introduced to the mobile bar industry. We immediately fell in love and knew we had to have one for our wedding. After searching and searching we realized they were very limited to find and the ones we did find did not have our date available. We were a little heartbroken but it all worked out for the best. Four months later we decided to bring this unique service to life and build our very own mobile bar. My husband and I transformed a 1970 horse trailer into a mobile bar for all events. I guess you can say “it all started with a horse trailer”.
Fast forward to 2023 where we purchased our gorgeous girl, our specialty tap truck named “Olivia”. She’s definitely a head turner and the talk at any event. She’s perfect for weddings, birthdays, rehearsal dinners, baby showers and so much more. Along with our tap truck we also offer our petite pancake bar which caters to all event types and pairs very well with our mimosas. We are so excited to continue to be apart of such special events pouring yummy beverages and delicious mini pancakes along with our charming southern hospitality. Follow along as this small business continues to grow and we can’t wait to see what the future holds. Cheers!!!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back one of the areas of knowledge that was most impactful I would say is my background in management. Playing that role in my past and developing those management skills has helped me tremendously in my business journey. Secondly I would have to pick my experience in event planning in my prior work field and also the 20+ years in customer service. There is always room to learn and to develop new skills in which I have learned a lot as well since starting this journey. My advice to others would be don’t be afraid to learn as you go. Start with the skills you already have and grow from there.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
One particular challenge I am facing was moving to a new city and starting over with our business, We began this journey in Miami where we are originally from. The business began and grew there. It wasn’t difficult to pick up our business and move since our business is technically a mobile business. What was a bit of a challenge was starting from scratch in a new place. Having to learn the area, build relationships with new vendors and even having to build a new following on social media. Every small business has its challenges and all you can do is learn and grow as you go through them.
