Meet Kelly Sevier

We were lucky to catch up with Kelly Sevier recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I come from very humble beginnings, and a childhood that less than optimal. My saving grace was my Foster Mother. She used to tell me “Tough times don’t last, but tough people do.” She showed me kindness and love, and taught me resilience in the face of adversity.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Professionally, I am focused on showcasing undiscovered and untapped talent to the world. I am the Editor-in-Chief of both Venom and Labyrinth Magazines. Each month we feature the talents and beautiful minds of Artists, Musicians, Models, Designers, and Photographers from all around the world. Being able to celebrate their accomplishments at all levels of the industry is the most rewarding aspect to my career. Watching someone’s face light up the first time they see themselves and their accomplishments in a magazine is my “Why” for doing what I do. There is an immense amount of talent in this world, and it deserves to be recognized. I think, for me, watching someone see themselves in print and actually FEEL and KNOW that their accomplishments have been recognized is an incredible feeling.
My Goal for talented Artists: To Make the WORLD Know Your Name.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

First, I started as a Model myself at the age of 15. Being a part of ‘Model Search America’ as well as attending Barbizon to learn the skill of modeling (because believe me – it is definitely a skill LOL) helped to prepare me to be signed with Cosmo Models. But it wasn’t until several years later that my career actually started to take off. My first big break came when I was featured in a magazine in Sweden, followed by a magazine in Ukraine, and the following week I received my first cover on a magazine in Greece. Everything happened very quickly from there. Learning the ins-and-outs of all sides of the business including modeling, photography, editing, and publishing stemmed from first just becoming a model.
Second, I’m very inquisitive. Once I started modeling I was fascinated with the editing side because it was the side that let me have full creative control. I wanted to bring the thoughts in my head to life. So I did.
Lastly, I am very organized and driven. The business aspect to the magazine is very intense. The immense amount of research that went into just “Where do I start” was overwhelming, but I started – and one piece at a time it finally all came together.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes, ALWAYS. We are always looking for talented Artists (Models, Musicians, Painters, Graphic Designers, Fashion Designers, literally all forms of Artists) to showcase to the world. As I personally love fashion, and having just gotten engaged (to an amazing and talented man himself) am on the hunt for a fantastic dress designer to collab with.
