Meet Kelly Sues

We were lucky to catch up with Kelly Sues recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
I absolutely love talking about self-care! Self-care has played such a dynamic role in my own life that I changed my career to focus on being a wayshower of it. I think to really begin talking about the importance of self-care we need to fully understand the depth and breadth that these two words define. Our bodies are not only our vessels of expression, they are also the vessel of our perception! This means that if our bodies are not functioning appropriately, our perception and expression are dysfunctional as well. That causes us to not show up as our best selves. I think the majority of people aim to be successful, but how can you call yourself successful if you cannot show up as your best.

Self-care can mean different things for each individual person. For me personally, I eat a pretty restrained and healthy diet, find joy in moving my body at the gym and doing yoga, and I take time to receive acupuncture, massage, and Reiki. I also have been setting stronger boundaries with my time and with overworking. I realized that I needed to make sure I was showing up as my best for each and every client no matter what day or time they are scheduled. What I do for a living is also a part of me sharing my joy, which in a balanced state feeds my soul so could also be considered self-care. Energy is transferrable and when we are well-cared for our energy is very high vibrationally. Self-care and self-love is actually the secret to an abundant life. This is because when you are full, you are abundant and the universe responds to that vibration.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a massage therapist and yoga teacher, and am the owner of Liquid Soul Yoga & Massage in Brandon, FL. My focus on starting a business was to facilitate a space filled with safety and love and like-minded people. I work with clients individually as well as teaching classes and workshops. It would be impossible for me to say what aspect of my job I love to do the most. I have gotten to the point in my life where the line between work Kelly and regular Kelly has nearly disappeared. What I do is just an expression of who I am and I am so blessed that what I express benefits others. In my experience, when you feel pure joy with whatever you’re doing it opens more opportunities to be successful. It’s a life-giving loop. I am filled with ideas for growth down the line but I can honestly say if I practiced how I am right now for the rest of my life I would still feel very content and happy. So we will see where I grow from here, but I am in no hurry to push growth as balance really is the most important thing.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would have to say the three skills that have behooved me the most are: #1 – Be flexible when plans don’t work out as anticipated. If we use our trust that everything happens for a reason and take a deep breath, usually fires have a way of putting themselves out and revealing a gift. #2 – Don’t worry about how you will be perceived by others. Shine your true light and you will attract those who shine the same. #3 – Show up as your best always. This means take care of you.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I was lucky enough to stumble upon a beautiful energy practitioner and massage therapist in South Carolina, who became my mentor. When I began my journey into the healing arts as a career, I struggled to trust myself and what I was feeling. Joy was always there to give me validation, feedback, and more than anything else, she believed in me. She genuinely saw the light within me and that genuine sight helped me to believe in myself. She is the reason I am so compassionate towards others. She is the reason why I understand the value in seeing others’ pure light and showing them the path to believing in one’s self.
