Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelsey Erin Sky. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelsey, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
In my experience, purpose isn’t something we find, it’s what we remember. Most of us can recall being asked the same question when we were little: “what do you want to be when you grow up?” When I was just 3 years old I knew I was an Artist. One of my first memories was being simultaneously aware of my little body and a limitless, borderless energetic field. Little Kels was connected to Truth. Oneness. Pure Consciousness. Limitless Creativity. She knew, trusted and acted on the desires of her heart and soul without question.
Initial artistry looked like masquerading around my yard as a wild horse, finger painting, pottery, drawing and my greatest love: Archery. Growing up in a Wisconsin hunting family with a Grandmother who was an artist nurtured my wild, creative spirit and forged the bones for my remembrance. My grandparents owned an Archery Club and learning to shoot bow and arrow is one of my first memories. I became the best through passionate practice, teaching other children and countless tournaments winning trophies taller than me. I’ll never forget the day I shot a Robinhood – when you shoot an arrow into the bullseye and then shoot the second arrow into the back of the first. Mastery. The reason I will never forget this day, is it’s when the mind became louder than Spirit. “How do I get any better?” was the haunting thought that disrupted my calm and confident aim. From then on, I began to give my power away to this mental noise and began to shoot off-center, leading to a sense of failure and loss. I put the bow down and attempted a new aim.
When it came time to go to college, I knew I didn’t want to do anything other than art. Being from a small country town, I remember my high school teacher Mrs. Rose requested a professor from Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design come travel to review my portfolio. She was impressed, I applied, and was accepted on my birthday! Since my grandmother taught me pottery, photography, drawing & painting, I was intrigued by something new: Graphic Design. I graduated with a BFA in Communication Design and then spent 6 years as a Senior Art Director at one of Milwaukee’s largest Ad Agencies, BVK. I refined my skills under top Creative Directors & Photographers and created award winning campaigns, yet my wild & free spirit deeply resisted the corporate lifestyle and big city. The little girl who grew up in the forest longed for nature, freedom and creation without criticism or limitation. Even though I was working full time, I still made space to host bi-monthly moon circles and had a side hustle of weaving Dreamcatchers. With all the doing, my body was screaming with migraines, culminating in one that sent me to the ER. I quit the agency the next day and never looked back. I returned to nature, yoga and visited renowned temple, Ekam, in India for the first time. After a major shift in Consciousness, I returned to the US with clarity. I bought my first Sony Camera and followed my heart to Sedona, Arizona – the place my Soul whispered of.
Sedona was my Soul home yet I still had some remembering to do. 3 months in, I traveled to Mexico for my JourneyDance teacher training. I brought my camera with me and upon graduating, I was asked to photograph every dancer in their full expression on the beach. I will never forget that initial rush of capturing whirling bodies, flying hair and clothing, but most of all: The Human Spirit. Over the next few years I would capture yogis, dancers, musicians, leaders and people living purpose and passion. I was being sought out to capture others in their highest light and expression while building a breathtaking body of work.
Upon returning to Sedona I met my fiancé Ray. From that moment on, life would accelerate and evolve in so many ways, as my aim was no longer simply art, but Enlightenment; the greatest human pursuit, the ultimate goal, the highest aim. Ray and I pursued yoga, self-inquiry and traveled to India together. After extensive mind training with my teachers Sri Preethaji, Sri Krishnaji and the Oneness Movement, my purpose was not only something I was remembering, but living. After learning about all of the tricks of the mind, how we believe to be separate selves and contemplating all the events and actions in my life, I was able to see what happened that day I listened to the mind over my true essence. It wasn’t “me” Kelsey who shot that Robinhood – that was a pure moment of Oneness, of no limitation, of being one with bow, arrow, target and purpose: the simple joy and happiness of being aware. The day my target became two – to win approval, love and recognition? That’s the day I forgot my purpose and my Truth. My aim is clear now. I know who I am and that purpose isn’t about striving or seeking—it’s about remembering who we really are – beyond the mind – and living from that place of Truth. My aim is clear, and I trust it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am devoted to creating soul-stirring, transformative experiences that connect people with their True Self through limitless creation. This ranges from Cinematic Photography and Video, JourneyDance, Yoga, Meditation and supporting + stewarding online and in-person Ceremonies and Retreats.
In my Photo Healing sessions, I invite you into a journey of authentic self-expression to release what no longer serves and fully embody the radiant essence of who you truly are. The photography is more than just an art form—it’s a sacred ceremony with the Soul. Guided by my own connection to the Divine, my studies in India and my path as an archer of Truth, I weave photography with healing modalities like meditation and movement to evoke timeless Spirit and capture that which can’t be expressed with words. Each session is a deeply intentional experience, infused with the magic and sacred energy of Sedona. The most exciting part is evoking and witnessing inner freedom. The photos of the transformation are the cherry on top! I also offer traditional photo services for branding, couples, engagements & more – just know that it will always be “different”!
In the retreat context, I am often hired to be part of entire retreats to capture the magic + facilitate dance, yoga or meditation. Leaders also often hire me to have 1:1 mini photo healing sessions with each one of their participants – It’s a favorite experience for everyone!
Beyond my photo work, I also work with select clients for high-level branding, design and website work. As a Creative Director, one of my gifts is Eagle Eye vision. I love supporting and stewarding the creation of conscious leadership and business rooted in integrity for the benefit of all. I’ve gone on tour a few times with World Soul Musician Poranguí to capture + support his Music is Medicine Retreats. I LOVE being in spaces of authenticity, healing and expression!
I am a Creative Enigma that cannot be contained or predicted! As an Aquarian Moon, I am always seeking to create that which doesn’t exist yet and bring it into form. In the spirit of limitless creation, I rarely do the same thing twice. Each photoshoot is unlike the next. Every dance or meditation it’s own universe. Keep an eye out for what is to come!!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Passion, Patience and Perseverance! Never, ever, give up. Follow your passion – that which is the burning desire and flame in your heart that seeks to express itself through you. The thing that only you can do from your Sacred Point of View! Nurture that flame with unwavering persistence, no matter the obstacles. Enjoy every moment as it’s all connected and related to your destiny. Patience is one of the best qualities for trusting and allowing that which is meant to be.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I can’t do what I do best without others to serve and co-create with! I love creating with passionate people who are adding beauty and love to the world. People who care for, consider and nurture Mother Earth. People who don’t make it about themselves and are here to be of service to the evolution of the planet. I love creating alliances with businesses, retreat leaders, musicians, artists, movements and anyone with a spark in their heart for Truth. I also desire to work with and support the youth in nurturing creativity and Self-Realization from an early age.
