We recently connected with Kely Pinheiro and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kely, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I derive my resilience from a combination of factors. Firstly, having a strong support system plays a crucial role in facing challenges. Positive relationships, a healthy self-image, and a positive attitude also contribute significantly to my resilience. Additionally, I believe in setting realistic goals, embracing change, and viewing setbacks as temporary obstacles, which further enhance my ability to bounce back from adversity.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a cellist, arranger, and teacher with a deep passion for music. I believe in the power of collaboration and I’m dedicated to making a positive impact on the music scene. My goal is to challenge stereotypes surrounding string instruments.
In my musical approach, I blend traditional cello techniques with a contemporary language, creating a unique and revitalizing sound. I draw inspiration from the brilliance of Joao Gilberto, Rosa Passos, and Jaques Morelembaum, seeking to incorporate their artistry into my own musical expression, weaving a rich and dynamic narrative.
A significant milestone in my journey was obtaining a dual degree from Berklee College of Music. Presently, I am humbly expanding my knowledge at New Jersey City University, finding fulfillment in the ongoing pursuit of my educational journey.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My journey has been significantly shaped by the practice, discipline, and resilience I cultivated, playing a pivotal role in bringing me to my current position. The benefits of these skills became evident when facing substantial tasks and challenging gigs, providing the strength and perseverance needed to navigate through demanding situations successfully. Mentors have been instrumental in my growth too, especially during my classical training as a cellist. Their guidance imparted valuable lessons on discipline and the intrinsic value of hard work, contributing significantly to my development.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was providing unconditional support. My family has consistently had my back, being there for me in times of need. Their unwavering support has made them my biggest fans, always rooting for me. This constant encouragement and belief in my abilities give me the strength to rise above challenges and strive to be the best at what I do.
