We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ken Sarmiento. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ken below.
Hi Ken , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Early in life, I learned that my purpose would be with music, a love that has provided me with direction amidst various challenges. Although I struggled in school, trying to fit in and dealing with the challenges of my ADHD, playing music seemed natural. Writing and playing music became my source of strength, offering me an outlet for expression and a way to process complex emotions, especially as a teenager. Through music, I found my voice and my purpose.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My latest single, ‘Teardrops Fall, ‘is a heartfelt collaboration with the incredibly talented songwriter/vocalist Clara Mailen. It delves into the universal theme of heartbreak but with a different twist. The sound of rain plays a significant role in the music’s vibe. I tried to capture both themes of loss and finding peace. The lyric video, set in an anime-inspired setting, offers a unique perspective on the song’s narrative.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
If I had to choose only three qualities, they would be honesty, open-mindedness, and perseverance. I try to be honest about my feelings, as emotions can be complex. I capture these emotions in the music. Having an open mind has helped me as an artist. I listen to several genres of music and keep a variety of influences. Whether you’re trying to promote albums or find the time to write music, it takes much perseverance to continue playing and promoting music. It’s a challenging industry to make a name for yourself. It’s these three qualities that have kept me around making music.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Numerous books have profoundly influenced me throughout my life. Harold Kushner’s “When Bad Things Happen to Good People” stands out. I read this book during my college years, and one of the key takeaways that has stayed with me is that despite life’s challenges, we can transform our pain into something meaningful.
