Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kendall Duffie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kendall, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I’ve always believed that confidence and self-esteem go hand in hand are developed over time and with intentionality.
For me I’ve always found confidence comes from being very sure about what you’re doing. To be very sure, you have to make certain that you practice, nurture, develop and perfect the things you feel are your natural talents and abilities.
For instance, developing and understanding my culinary skills to the point that I felt a level of confidence in that area that it boosted my self-esteem as well.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I love making people happy through my creative outlets. Food is one of those outlets that has turned into a business for me.
As a vegan chef and certified rescue diver, I combined those 2 passions to create Deep Sea Vegan. A nautically themed vegan eatery based in Nashville, TN.
We have been operating as a resident pop up inside the trendy East Nashville Food Hall Hunters Station since summer of 2020.
The company is black owned, and family owned with my twin brother Kelvis and sister Michelle.
All of our menu items are 100 percent made from scratch, 100 percent plant based and themed after scuba diving, the beach or the ocean.
We are now transitioning to a brick and mortar and working on having some of our items available in retail outlets nationally.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe staying optimistic was a very important quality as it’s always very challenging getting any vision off the ground and more so sustaining it.
Having the skill set to create recipes from scratch was something that gave us an edge in the market with very unique menu items.
Being determined is another quality that it takes to launch a vision or dream. There are more no’s and bad days than there are yes’s and good days when you are trying to do something that no one else can see.
So you have to know going in that you’re in it for the long haul regardless of how hard it gets.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My siblings and I were raised in a single parent home. The most important thing my mom taught me was having faith in God.
Through her example of faith with her own life she showed me how to overcome adversity and stay encouraged through every part of life’s journey.
