Meet Kendra Chanae

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kendra Chanae a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Well, I got my confidence and self-esteem from my children and my husband. My entire childhood going into my teenage years, my self-esteem was not the best and I didn’t really saw myself as being beautiful or pretty to some people. But after I had my second child, I felt really confident and self-esteem started to build. On top of that, my husband has always been my main support when it came to my looks, my appearance, my dreams; and having someone like that in my life 24/7 built so much confidence in me. That I even had to look in the mirror to encourage myself. and then, knowing that I could sing, and I have this creative mind, and how it made people feel is what really amped up my self-esteem and confidence for my future.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a singer and songwriter based from Indianapolis, Indiana. I am mostly throughout the day, trying to create a new new sound when it comes to music and vocals, something different that no one else has heard of.
I started singing when I was five year’s old at church and from there singing has been my entire life. I love how it makes me feel, I love how it makes others feel and get the feedback whether it’s good or bad, it helps me to go higher or to be better each time. I am currently in the process of doing my first EP and I am ecstatic and excited for my fans and future fans to hear the type of sound that I am bringing.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities I honestly feel that we’re very impactful were my writing abilities, my singing range, and the confidence I have when I’m in front of an audience; that really built me up and made my presence a little more known.
The advice I have for people that are just starting off, as myself, in the game; I would definitely say be consistent, being encouraged, and continue to create. There are a lot of people that have so much talent in them, that I want to hear something different for the next generation. Continue to be you, you don’t have to sound like someone else. You can be influenced or inspired by that artist, but when you create some thing different in your craft, that is when you stand out the most.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Most definitely! I am always looking to collaborate with other artists whether they are existing or just starting off. It’s fun to collab with your peers. Because you don’t know what creative craft they have when it comes to their music, it may be something so different that you have not heard before and you can play with it. I love collaborating with other artists, that is encouraging to me and, I want to see them win as well as myself. We can all be successful in this industry and be a blessing to the world. Let’s have fun with it and fulfill our dreams, our goals and our passion!
