We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kendra Daniels a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kendra , thank you so much for joining us today and appreciate you talking about a sensitive topic. It’s unfortunately relevant to so many in the community as layoffs have been on the rise recently, and so we’d appreciate hearing your story and how you overcame being let go?
After getting laid off in 2020, I spent a lot of time on the hunt for a new beginning. Between interviews, I de-stressed by creating with whatever I had on hand. From painting to sculpting, I’ve tried my hand at many things. Forming jewelry proved to be the most cathartic.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Kandron Krafts was born from an old nickname and a love for creating. I’m so lucky to have a means of sharing this way. At this time, I’m only selling pendants. I hope to add sets including rings soon.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience, Practice, and the knowledge that some pieces are meant to teach. Everything you make will not be perfect, but, each piece helps you get better and better at your craft. Some pieces I’ve created were embarrassingly shabby, however, I learned from each one.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My family has been the most helpful in every way. After I made my first piece and shared the interest with them, they actually had wire and all sorts of supplies shipped to my house. At the time I was unemployed so without this, I may have never pursued the art.
