We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kendra Marsh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kendra, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
How I developed my confidence and self-esteem is by, embracing the trials and tribulations in my life. Trying to understand the saying, everything happens for a reason helped me to become stronger. Majority of the time, I think to myself, why is this happening? Then, I think about the obstacles I went through and still standing today. I feel like God has giving me the tools to enrich my craft in life. Having all of these tools together, has given me the passion, strength, and drive, to keep moving forward.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I currently am in the nursing field. I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) for seven years. I am about to graduate with my Medical Office Assistant (MOA), October 1st, 2023. I am currently back in college to pursue my Registered Nurse (RN) Degree. I also have my own residential cleaning company. I have my business for two years now. I have had individuals ask me, am I hiring? In the next six months to a year, I am going to work on getting my business together. Get people employed, website together, office building location, etc. Eventually, I want to be a nurse practitioner as well, in the future.
I have a business proposal for the youth to have car washes, recreation centers built and redone over, block parties to raise money for field trips, etc. I also helped with bringing “Second Chance” Month to Maryland, A program that will help formerly and incarcerated inmates, back on their feet to real freedom.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that was impactful in my journey is, proper communication skills, team leadership, and showing initiative. The advice I would give to individuals just starting out in their journey is, never give up on your dreams or ideas. If you do not have others with you right now, do the work yourself. Just do not overpower or overwhelm yourself.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I am looking for folks to partner or collaborate with. I am looking for individuals or organizations that have a passion for the youth. I have done college fairs, open mic night, changing policies in the foster care system etc. There is more information of previous and current events far as projects that I have done and currently working on.
