Meet Kendrick Harris

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kendrick Harris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Kendrick with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from my life experiences and the child hood of growing up in a small town with little opportunities and minimum exposure to the rest of the world. It’s like a boy looking out the window and constantly seeing the world past him by from the distance and saying this box that I’m in will only last for a while. When I get older ima go see what there is on the other side and come back to share with those that had the same dreams as me. Then one day you don’t even realize it but you’re just standing in the middle of the city, eyes gazing and saying wow. But that’s the same time that he began to tackle the thing that they said couldn’t be done in that box but he just wouldn’t say so til he tried. Next thing you know you just keep doing it and I find myself not understanding how to truly stop sometimes because the world just keeps bigger as you keep going that I’m not sure if the sky is the only the limit anymore. While I’m forever grateful for the box, I can never go back but I know without it I wouldn’t have the desire to keep going.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As owner/operator of For The People I strive to do exactly that everyday. Just simply be there for my people. I spend time maintaining lawns, power washing homes, transporting cars across the country, mentoring and trying to push us forward in every community that I can touch. It’s the best experience ever because everyday is different and makes an impact on someone life beyond yourself. The smiles, and motivation becomes priceless but we plan to continue to give back to the youth with sponsorships for camps, scholarships, holiday giveaways and presence with the schools athletic programs in the Harnett County area.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
If I had to say the three things that have been the most valuable along my journey would be first patience with God’s plan. Secondly humble and hardworking, but thirdly the respectfulness of my elders and others. Without all those together I would not be here today. If you want to be successful first understand that things do not happen on your time nor do they happen to you but for you. As you gain understanding for whatever you are wanting to accomplish in life you must be willing to learn and work, work and learn til you master your fate! Everything you have been through has shaped where you are going, so be mindful of the controllables and keep the faith as you go.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The book Rich Dad and Poor Dad changed my life forever. I highly recommend it to anyone in thoughts of entrepreneurship, business or personal development. I think the most important takeaway is that success is not one sided or one way, but also reflects from how you see it. Robert did an amazing job of breaking down systems from what you are taught versus what you learn because you may blame others for whatever you lack in life when it takes the intelligence to do so. Your circle is everything, you need family and friends but you also need people that you can learn new things to help you grow.
