We were lucky to catch up with Kendrick P. recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kendrick , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my both of my grandfathers. They were two self made men that took care of their family at all cost. I was blessed to experience them in the wisest times of their life & soak it all in. One of them passed recently while on the job. Crazy to say I feel like he would be happy that was doing what he loved when he left. He gave his all. Both of them instilled it in all of us to stay true to ourselves, do what we love & to give our all. With those lessons in mind, that is all I ever do.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a R&B artist from Memphis Tn. Musics been apart of my life since I can remember. From church to my moms cd collections I fell in love. I play a few instruments thanks to my grandfather making me play for him at the church. I had no choice and I hated it then but so grateful for it now. Went through some crazy things growing up. Even tried to run away from my gifts but it was always something about creating music that I couldn’t get away from. 18 years old I started recording songs and released a project. From there I’ve been growing in ways I wouldn’t have imagined. Bless to say I understand the energy I’m out on earth to give out and I am moving in that with all of me. My music is to make my people feel. Whether that be stories of love or pain, loss or gain. I want to be able to help people with my truth. Strictly moving in love & truth. My latest singles & project Years and Tears are an example of just that.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My creative ability my understanding of the business & my work ethic. Took time but balancing all three is what keeps me and my team consistent in what we do. If you are in your early years of building learn as much as you possibly can about yourself & the business. Find a solid team and grow with them. Figure out what you want out of this, stand firm on that & stay consistent. Everything will work out well for you.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My Grandfathers. My Mom, My team. A couple close family members.
They’ve help groom me into a better person in every way they could. I’ve learned so much from all them and their stories. They’ve been here for me every step and that taught me unfiltered loyalty. Respect Love & Loyalty is key with my people and in that I am able to stay resilient.
