Meet Kendull Anderson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kendull Anderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kendull below.

Kendull, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I’ve been through many things in life and I never let them get me down for too long. One of the most traumatic experiences I’ve had was losing my mother at the age of 6, being so young there was a lot I didn’t understand, but I could feel the hurt. I’ve also struggled with mental illness as I’ve gotten older. But one thing that has kept me afloat is my faith in God. I know that everything will eventually work out in my favor. I know there is an Entity that loves us and is constantly working the good and bad in our favor.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Professionally I’m focused on honing my skills and really taking the time to execute each painting with a certain level of love and attention. With each new painting I want to reveal a different part of myself to the viewer: my dreams, hopes, and fears. I want my work to stand out wether its only one piece of mine on display or many all together. I want the observer to feel immersed in my world of bright colors and symbolism. I am new to the art world so I’m still trying to figure out what I want my career to look like, but as of right now gallery representation is a big goal of mine.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Independence, determination and persistence I feel are the most impactful qualities that got me to where I am today and they continue to be major factors in getting me where I want to go.

You have to be independent. You have to be able to stand on your own two feet. Knowing that if anything goes wrong along the way you have YOU to fall back on. Have the idea in your mind that no one is coming to save you, even if you have family and friends who will.

You have to be determined to make your dreams a reality. No matter the climate of life you have to be willing to continue forging the path you are creating. If you get knocked down just get back up again.

You must be persistent. Making it a daily habit to work towards your goals and dreams. Having a realistic plan and course of action that you can repeat everyday. Small wins everyday equal big wins in the future.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I’m feeling overwhelmed I try to take it one day or moment at a time. Baby steps; one foot in front of the other. Sometimes life is like what I imagine climbing a mountain would be like. Some parts of the mountain are easier to climb than others. Some parts of the mountain you can walk regularly and other parts you really have to brace yourself. I also feel it is important to look for the glimmers of light and hope when feeling overwhelmed. Always be looking for signs that the universe sends that things are gonna get better.
