We recently connected with Kenisha Darden and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenisha, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My parents, my family, have instilled in me a strong work ethic. Both my parents worked hard to provide for my brother and me when we were growing up. As a child, I witnessed my parents making sacrifices to ensure our well-being. We were surrounded by family members who also did the same thing. There have been times when I was forced to re-do certain chores if they were not completed correctly. I was told that if you are going to do something, make sure you do it correctly and take pride in your workmanship. I was told that it is not only a reflection of me, but also of my family name. It would be inappropriate for me to embarrass the family name. The message has remained with me to this day.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a business owner, I own and operate Darden Quality of Works, LLC Remote Staffing Service, I have written a book, Not on God’s Watch, I am a military veteran spouse and my most important role is motherhood. My family is my most important thing to me, they are the reason I do what I do. I Enjoy my children and I enjoy being there for them and my business allows me to do just that. My business was started because of one of my children. I really do get joy out of helping others, with my business I am doing exactly what I love to do helping others and making a profit doing so.
I am also an author. My book Not on God’s Watch is a powerful testament of faith, courage, and the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity. The book chronicles a riveting journey of survival from a life-threatening illness, resilience against an abusive relationship, and the struggle to find love amidst the chaos. With each page turned, the reader is pulled deeper into this intimate exploration of vulnerability, pain, and the quest for healing. This journey ultimately leads to a profound spiritual awakening, highlighting the unyielding power of faith and the comforting reassurance that with trust in God, everything will indeed be okay. It’s an unforgettable tale that inspires, uplifts, and serves as a reminder of the power of resilience and divine love.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Keeping an open mind is very important. The world is constantly changing, so before you dismiss something, take a moment to listen, or at least give it a try. Do not dismiss it so easily. Take your time to think about it.
Running a business requires a great deal of documentation, when it comes to keeping track of everything. You have to remember that people aren’t always so honest, or people tend to forget things more often than not, so it’s very important to document everything that you can. During the course of 3 jobs, I was able to learn this and it is something that I live by today.
Whenever you feel that something isn’t for you, you should go with your gut instinct and trust your feelings. Trusting that feeling will more than likely prevent a mistake from being made if you rely on that feeling. There are times when we dismiss it, but I consider it to be a warning that should not be ignored. It is always a good idea to take your time when making a big decision.
Although you asked for three, I would like to add one more, which is the most important to me. Always be polite, use words such as: thank you, please, my pleasure, you are welcome, or I would be more than happy to assist. When I began my business, I did not know a lot, but I was humble and considerate of other people’s time. As much as I could, I thanked people whenever I could. I knew that they did not have to help me in any way, and that the least I could do was to be on time and thank them.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
As things stand at the moment, my business isn’t doing as well as I would like it to. As a result of the “Great Resignation”, I am having to go back and re-evaluate things, as well as come up with new marketing strategies that will enable me to reach more people. In the midst of all this, I am really brainstorming as well as brushing up on some of my skills so that I can reach a wider audience.
