We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ken’Ja Pharr . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ken’Ja below.
Ken’Ja , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I Honestly Believe that I found my purpose through owning my truth. I always grew up very outspoken but not exactly being my authentic self. At times I felt that if I show my true self maybe others wouldn’t lean towards me. The thing I’ve done half my life was pretend to be someone I was not versus staying true to my own story. I often reflect and realized that I was not some girl ho had it all figured out I indeed had many flaws and once I sorted and worked through those one by one I found my true purpose. I didn’t start my business for the freedom it could bring or the money but the many lives I could touch through my artistry and energy. I also went through a moment of solitude which help me have a moment to fully dig into my history of self and understand that there is power in family heritage learn from it. This helped me to cultivate choices that were beneficial to self and to let go of those that does no justice. Implementing this I started to knock down generational curses. I started to own that I was paving the way for a new leaf. You cannot really rush the process or moment to finding your purpose I believe you must keep going until you hit that moment. Its a wonderful feeling and I believe those who to have found and are walking in the purpose they believe man has given them life starts to become much easier.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi my name is Ken’Ja Pharr. I am from Milwaukee WI and relocated to Atlanta, Ga at the age of seventeen years old. I honestly knew then that I was ready to explore and chase the dreams that I have always had for myself and my family. In Milwaukee I lived with my grandfather who raised four girls. We lost my mother to stage 4 breast cancer in 2008 at the age of twenty nine years old. She let three beautiful girls behind including myself that my grandfather had to raise along with his other daughter. My hats are off to that old man he has done a wonderful job with raising four girls on his own. That’s just sone small context without getting too deep on where my ambition is driven from.
Fast forward to present day I currently hold two degrees from East Georgia State College and Georgia Southern University. My ultimate goal. was to become an Oncology Nurse, But god had other plans for me. Today I am a Lash Artist here in Atlanta Ga. I have truly fell in love with the art and enjoy meeting amazing women everyday. Another reminder to chase what is called onto you. Nobody can tell you what to do for self but self. Something I had to learn along the way.
The end goal is to one day own a Med spa right here in Atlanta Ga, and relocate adding another location in the west coast which is where my family is originally from. Im thinking right in LA. For now my lash company sells quality lash supplies that is available for other lash artist. Our website is www.kandikoatedminks.com
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities or areas of knowledge that is most impactful on the journey would be
1. Customer Service Skills : You have to be able to know how to work with different individuals and understand that there are a million in one different mindset and perspectives so you must. be willing to adjust at any given moment. The moment you give back energy that you are receiving things could go left and two wrongs do not make a right. So my advice would be enjoy the process don’t expect an easy return on your investment the process is pivotal.
2. Financial Literacy: This is key to running any business. learn the ins and out to money on every level cashflow and credit. Both these categories will make or break a business hence why most business fail before hitting year five this is a proven fact. During spare moments I read books I stay away from television. Give self a year to just do that and it will change your habits indeed.
3. Product Mastery: know your business and or product in and out become a true scientist when it comes to it.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
A book that has played an important role in my development would be The Four Agreements
1. Be impeccable with your word!
2. Don’t take anything personal!
3. Don’t make assumptions!
4. Always do your best!
