Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kenji Boyd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kenji , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Well, when I was 11 years old I watched my first anime ever. I’d love to say it was Dragonball Z but it was Detective Conan! From the moment I watched the first episode I was hooked and after that, all I did was draw anime characters. Since that moment I always knew that making manga was what I wanted to do with my life.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am currently working on smaller manga projects and have two longer projects in the works! My brand mainly comes from my passion for my culture and combining it with my love for anime and manga. The main focus of the artistic career is to create stories through art that people can enjoy but also learn valuable lessons from.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I can honestly say the most important quality to have is belief in yourself. There are so many times that I doubt myself and my path but having that belief in myself and that everything is going as it should kept me going. Another notable skill I can mention would be the ability to infer things you can study rather than copying. We all want to be like someone and following in their footsteps can be great but examining them in your shoes will teach you even more.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Currently, I am having the challenge of taking on such large tasks and keeping them to myself rather than immediately posting them online. Being able to keep your art for yourself is such a difficult challenge in the age of social media but I think it’s important for us as artists to be able to do this.
