We recently connected with Kennapolis Simon and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kennapolis, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
I would say, that came from just knowing that if I wanted the results I seek in life I would have to do things that I either normally wouldn’t do or just things that would take me out of my comfort zone.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a 9-5 worker by day and an artist by night. Realistically I feel that I’m an artist first but having a job is my reality until my dream becomes my career.
The most special thing about me musically is that people actually enjoy what I’m saying and how good I’m able to deliver and be relatable. I’ve been doing it since I was 15 years old and I’m 35 today. Originally it was something I wanted to try because I thought it was cool, not knowing years later it would’ve later developed into therapy for me and just a way to express myself freely. It was hard for me to do that when I was younger because I could never really put into words when it came to how I felt. It’s also exciting knowing that I actually gained supporters along the way that genuinely wants to see me win. The excitement from that fuels my confidence and hustle more and more.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say my personality for starters. I’ve always been a likeable person so it was always good energy from me that kept those around me.
Then I would say my willingness to always want to help people. I’ve been on both ends where I was the helper and I also was the one that needed the help as well. In life I feel like no matter how independent you are, you’re going to need help in some kind of way.
Lastly, the knowledge of knowing that anything I wanted and needed in life I had to get out here and work for it. That was something my grandpa drilled in my head ever since I was a kid. As I got older I understood it more.
My advice to anyone on their journey is to know that the world is yours and everything in it! If it’s something out here you want to obtain you can do it, it’ll take discipline and patience but never let anyone or anything stop you on your path to greatness.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I would have to say my grandpa (My mom’s dad). I lost my dad when I was 9 years old, so my grandpa played a major role in my upbringing. His main thing was to always make sure you’re putting yourself in a position to where I could have certain things accessible to me. He wanted me to be a man I could be proud of and just wanted me to map out a good life for myself so I wouldn’t have to struggle or as much. His advice was always stern but raw and straight to the point. He wanted me to learn as much as I could about the world at an early age because he knew first hand how cruel is was. While I didn’t care for his delivery a lot of times lol I knew he meant well for me.
