We were lucky to catch up with Kenneth Durant recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kenneth , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I live life, I take time away from music and do regular living so that way it gives me something new to write about because at times we can get burned out when we’re just constantly focused only on creating the next song or the next verse. I recently took these last few months to just soak in life so that way, my creativity could build up again.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I go by Kenneth Durant, I am a music artist from San Antonio, TX. I would describe my style of music as a mix of pop culture/hip-hop. I derive my interest and influences from the things I grew up on such as video games, basketball, movies & tv shows etc. I am also a husband & father so incorporating these aspects in my life story is always important to me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First and foremost God first because at the end of the day I wouldn’t be able to come up with these ideas and concepts to create and put down into a lyrical form without him.
Second I have a motto that I go by and that’s “Slow Grind is Better Than NO Grind!” basically what it means is it doesn’t matter how long it takes you. It doesn’t matter how old you are as long as you complete your goal that’s all that matters at the end of the day. Never base your expectations on how you see everybody else moving go at your own pace. As long as you achieve your goal, that’s all that matters at the end of the day.
Lastly, I would say stay as consistent as possible and always have a plan. Don’t hold onto your art always put it out because there’s always somebody out there that will love it. We have billions of people in the world who listen to music everyday. Don’t allow yourself to get trapped in this thought that just because someone in your city doesn’t like your music or someone up the street doesn’t like your music that somebody in another state won’t. Our voice is a very powerful tool and having the ability to be able to create words an put them together in a creative way is amazing.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
If I had one book to choose that I recommend all men read in their lifetime it’s The Five Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts by Gary Chapman.
This book helped shape me to become a better husband and overall gave me a better understanding on how to be a more efficient, compassionate partner to my wife.
Even if you’re not married, I still recommend reading this book because it’ll give you a better way to understand how to handle things with your partner especially if you’re lacking certain areas more than half the time it’s not that we are not good partners it’s just we need to improve in a certain area that we never knew we could improve in.
This book really opened my eyes, and I recommend it for anyone not just men but anyone who’s in a relationship or married. It definitely will help you understand your partner a lot more than you think and help you to navigate how you can overcome issues or resolve areas where you might be lacking.
