Meet Kenneth Groom

We were lucky to catch up with Kenneth Groom recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kenneth, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic is deeply rooted in the examples set by my parents, who were both committed to their professions and to teaching me the value of hard work. Whether it was my dad, diligently working for the Department of Transportation, or my mom, dedicated to her role in food service, they both coached me to understand and appreciate the importance of having marketable skills. They instilled in me not just the desire to succeed, but the integrity and perseverance needed to make a meaningful impact.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As the founder of Beyond Normal Media, a platform dedicated to amplifying the voices and stories of underserved founders. Our mission is to showcase the unique journeys of these entrepreneurs, shedding light on the incredible innovation and dedication within communities that are often overlooked by mainstream media. What excites me most about this work is the opportunity to challenge traditional narratives and provide a stage for real, diverse entrepreneurial stories that inspire and educate.

We’re always exploring new ways to engage and expand our impact. Currently, we’re planning the next season of the Beyond Normal Podcast, which will feature a series of discussions on how emerging technologies like AI can drive business outcomes without the hype, focusing on authenticity and practical application.

This initiative is part of my broader vision to empower and uplift through media, creating a lasting impact that goes beyond business.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

In my journey as an entrepreneur and media founder, three key qualities have been particularly impactful: my love for mathematics, my ability to engage with diverse groups of people, and a selective focus on what truly adds value to my life and work.

Firstly, my background in mathematics fueled my passion for devising efficient solutions. This analytical approach has been invaluable in navigating the complexities of running a business and innovating within the media space.

Secondly, my ability to converse with people from various backgrounds has not only enriched my personal life but also enhanced my professional endeavors. It has enabled me to build a broad network and foster a diverse community around our brand, which is fundamental in a field that thrives on varied perspectives.

Lastly, what some might call being nonchalant, I view as having strategic prioritization skills. I focus intensely on areas where I can add the most value and delegate or collaborate on the rest. This allows me to work with passionate individuals who excel in areas outside my expertise, thus broadening the impact of our projects.

For those early in their journey, my advice would be to develop your active listening skills. Being a good listener is essential for understanding complex problems and identifying innovative solutions. It allows you to truly hear what stakeholders need, perceive the pain points in your scope, and respond effectively. Cultivating this skill will make you a better problem-solver and a more empathetic leader.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is a growing business owner who is eager to tell their unique story in a way that resonates deeply with customers. They’re looking for innovative methods to communicate their value and deliver solutions precisely when their customers need them. These clients appreciate the power of media and storytelling to reduce friction in their customer interactions and enhance their market presence. At Beyond Normal Media, we leverage AI technology to streamline content creation, making it easier for business owners to convey their journey and offerings effectively. This allows us to create highly tailored and impactful narratives that truly speak to an audience’s needs.
