Meet Kenneth O’Brien-Llontop

We recently connected with Kenneth O’Brien-Llontop and have shared our conversation below.

Kenneth, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from the passion to achieve what I have in mind, for the mere goal of seeing my project finished no matter how long it takes or how many times I fall.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Filmiko, my production company, is the most important thing for me professionally; it is my brand, name, and alter ego. Filmiko has allowed me to develop different genres in the audiovisual field, from documentaries to music videos. It has also become something that goes beyond me. Filmiko is also a human team that makes dreams come true.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Directing, editing, and production. These are the areas I have developed the most in my career. Learning each of them has impacted the other. What I would recommend to the new generations starting out on the path of film and video is to follow their own voice, which is found after hours and hours of practice.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Blake Snyder’s “Save the Cat” has definitely been a book that helped me see storytelling differently; it helped me give structure to my ideas and scripts. It saved me many times from the terror of the blank page.
