Kenton, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Prayed a lot. I knew whatever I was going to do for a living had to have a sense of fulfillment. Working for the man for a salary wasn’t going to cut it. I prayed everyday while living stoically out of a station wagon traveling around Australia. One day I thought it would be the greatest to do something for the planet something that’s really necessary.. and several months later I got invited to go on a leak detection and dove a pool where we saved the pool from being drained. I thought wow this feels like a miracle to see this is my life for an opportunity for me. It was like a light bulb went off and my vision was now very clear and my mind was more at ease because now I had a purpose!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
We are focused on saving water. We provide a specialized service doing leak detection in swimming pools. Our service is different than many in the industry because leak detection is all we do and we dive every pool we go to. Other companies are repair companies that sometimes do a leak detection and rarely dive the pool. We save a lot of water by the way we do things. We also save folks from having to do big repairs because some things those repair companies will repair we find those things not necessary. We focus on doing the best leak detection possible and we have been doing that now for over a decade here in Southern California. We sometimes take a month off during the winter time but we sometimes dive pools that are in the 40s! We have great wetsuits that help on these cold dives but water that cold is brutal to work in and can make your teeth hurt if you get a mouth full. We are proud that through our leak detection method in swimming pools and hard work millions of gallons of water is saved yearly. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience- Give yourself room to improve. Nobody starts off day one looking like the world champ.. and also their will be tough days and weeks and months and years. What you do may not always feel sexy or successful right now but life in itself is a journey and we must embrace the adversity we experience and know that once the storm stops the sun will shine again.
Transparency- One must be able to look at things through the eye of a third party.. especially when dealing with the general public and providing a product or service. Sometimes things happen and it is important to look at scenarios through the eyes of both parties and do what’s right.
Hard work- Folks spend so much time and effort looking for an easy way of doing things. There’s not always some secret to success.. the time and effort one spends on their path to a goal usually pays off.. not always right away but it does. Sometimes we have to work and work and then finally the floodgates open. Believe.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle we feel in our industry and in what we are trying to do saving water in swimming pools is the automatic fill..
The auto fill masks so many leaks and our residents here in Southern California waste so much water because of this non drought tolerant device. It is absolutely crazy that so many pools have these and that regulatory agencies such as LADWP and water districts allow these. Folks don’t know their pool has a leak until the leak is really bad.
